10,000 bonus points per 20 transactions

I can see why Amex has been playing dirty with most of us based on what I have read in some of the posts in this thread. If my assumptions are correct some people here are averaging ~$5 per transaction, ....

The other point is that this Promo was originally designed to get people using their cards more for small tx.

ie Amexes own examples of a Cup of Coffee (some places one can get a coffee for $2.50) and a Movie Ticket (one of my local cinemas drops as low as $4) can be cheap spend.

Add to this that when you rang up that you were clearly told..no mimimum spend...and you clearly havea promo where small tx where not only permissable but encouraged!!!!!!!!!!!

The Amex spin has backpeddled from this....but that is how it started.

This promo was not about people just spending as they did previously....and being rewarded for it. BUT Amex wanted changed behaviour...and got it.

Amex stuffed up in many ways...the size of the bonus being the main one.
By having a reward bonus greater than possible purchases they made arod for their own back.

Perhaps they were stupid too in not realising that very small tx can be made.

But again this is not abuse of the promo...it is use of the promo.

@JohnK Please lodge a complaint with Amex - they will have evidence of you having registered (especially if you got a letter saying you did multiple registrations ;)) then complain to the FSO when you dont get a timely response - you will win!
I received a letter, I hope I can find it, saying I enrolled in multiple promotions and they would put me on the 10T/5K promotion as I did not receive the postcard. But I mentioned to them that I did see the 5T/5K promotion on the Amex website but this meant nothing to them. I accepted the ruling at the time but if the FSO is treating the complaints seiously then I may as well put in a complaint to Amex to put me on the 5T/5K promotion and take it from there.

JohnK, they wrote first 'we' never invited you so we're sticking uninvited people on 10t' and lter wrote 'we apologise and put you on 5k/5t' with backdated effect from 1 October'. I believe they know who was enrolled in 5/5. Go for it.

Incidentally, if Amex had just paid up ages ago, there wouldn't be reams of webpages saying 'don't accept the fobb off, go to the financial services ombudsman instead'.

John:

They don't have a leg to stand on with this. You should be making a complaint through the FSO - the only problem is the time that the process can take - I lodged the complaint on 20th December, and received a case number, but was told that they still need to review the case before proceeding further or even sending it to Amex for review - it's almost a month later, and I still haven't heard if they are going to even consider it.

I did send the same letter to Amex Executive Services at the same time.

If you need evidence of the 5T/5K website page, PM me.

I can hear music

It is a pity we didn't organise a group assault on Fortress Amex... as they would probably have run out of hot oil much sooner.

One very positive thing is that there is now a clear precedent..... one climber stands victorious on the battlements , will the multitudes now follow and overwhelm the defence.

How many assaults will it take for the drawbridge to collapse and all those golden points come rolling out....

The show ain't over , there is no singing , but I can hear music..:)

I wrote this earlier in the thread, but when you entered MYREWARD, the page that you got then on the Amex site said:

"You are now registered to receive 5,000 Membership Rewards Bonus Points for every 5 transactions you make each month from 1 September to 31 December 2008, with no limit to the Bonus Points you can earn. To find out all of the places you can be
rewarded for using your American Express® Card click here [amexnetwork.com.au/merchantmap]"

(emphasis mine)
I didn't keep a copy of what was presented after joining. But I do have a copy (original PDF format, but too large to attach so changed to JPG for attachment here) of the 5T/5K offer that was advertised on-line. I will attach here. It clearly states the promotion was for transactions from 10th September.

Do they owe from 1st Sept or 10th Sept or from date of enrollment???? I'm interested coz Amex just wrote to lawyers saying they can't backdate enrollments/bonii albeit due to Amex's own problems.

Per beardoc: "You are now registered to receive 5,000 Membership Rewards Bonus Points for every 5 transactions you make each month from 1 September to 31 December 2008, with no limit to the Bonus Points you can earn. To find out all of the places you can be

So do they owe us bonii from 1st Sept, 10th Sept or from enrolling?

PS: Telstra tell me they just registered me on the Amex direct debit - 4 days after my bill was due so I owe Tesltra $15. If they don't waive the $15, I'll take the 2000 Amex bonii and go back to my old carrier.

I have asked for credit from 10th Sept since that is what the offer said. I made no mention of 1st Sept or of commencing from date of registration.

I dont see where there is any confusion, especially since this was an opt in promotion.

i.e. Various inclinations of the promotion had different start dates, however you are only eligible to be part of the promotion from the date you registered on.

Had this not have been an opt in promotion, then we have a different story all together.

Again evidence of more sloppy work by Amex...they should either have had a world like eligible inserted (as I have added.....) or have had a reference the count starting from your registration.

Again evidence that the Amex Team running this particular promo where a bunch kids on unsupervised work experience:idea: ;)

I mean seriously...did Amex get anything right in this promo???

What I can see they made mistakes at all stages...from original planning through to every stage of execution.

They should have asked Amex in Singapore to use the same workign as they use in similar propotions in the past and the current 10+10 promotion (yes 20 points per $ spend, but simply limited to 4k at that rate on one card and 16k on the higher card)

Oh well its history now.... just have to see how it works out.

Question to all which may have been answered but i dont want to read the whole thread again... How were people targeted ? spend high or low, geographic area, no years a member, what did they use.
Just wondering why i never got a post card i guess.

All of the above. It appears the decision on who received the postcard was random.

Just wondering why i never got a post card i guess.
You are not alone....

Just an FYI - I got my official letter yesterday specifying 5/5 from date of registration.

Evan, I was told by a csr they were instructed to offer promos until 22 September to anyone - eg blue card holders - who phoned in. (And thats why I'm suspicious of Amex' letters that say 'we only invited selected people')

They claim they targeted some by geographical proximity to new businesses they enrolled. Phooey. The web site offer was open to the world. And Staff were manually enrolling entrnts who had trouble getting on line. Staff were, in my case, basically spruiking these promos to callers. Hence I'm peeved at the claim that people told people to enrol.

I smell a lot of Bacon Saving ("BS").

Anyone got the last of their bonuus points yet? Not long til the end of the month or Amex's further breach. Not long to the outta this world promo: a free ticket to see Startrek would be nice ;)

I was in Europe at the time and sort of missed the begining of the thread.... very sad i could have made a killing so to speak. Oh well thats life sometimes.

Intersesting that the consensus is the last of bonus points to come by the close of January. In December a CSR explained that I could expect my final points (e.g. from transactions on December 31) 8-10 weeks from that date, presumably March at the latest.

Executive Services advised me they'd be ALL be awarded to me at the end of January, but I recall someone here was told mid-Feb. I hope Amex hasn't again just found some other reason to stuff everyone around.

A big issue for me is that Amex's delays meant I missed Qantas' 2-for1 sale (and I would have bought them if I knew Amex was inaccurately promising 6-8-10 weeks). I missed Velocity's 25% promo and Vaust $1200 fares. I don't want to miss Velocity's 'out of this world' promo in February!!!!

Me, I just want enough points to give the wife a Dyson for her birthday :)

It's a brave man who gives his wife a cleaning appliance for her birthday, moreso if you havent even "paid" for it!
