There's an even better code to use "MYREWARD".

You are now registered to receive 5,000 Membership Rewards™ Bonus Points for every 5 transactions you make each month from 1 September to 31 December 2008, with no limit to the Bonus Points you can earn.

Terms and Conditions

14.4 Fraud and abuse relating to the earning of points in the program or redemption of
rewards, including transfer of points to participating frequent traveller programs,
may result in forfeiture of points as well as cancellation of the program account.

I am no lawyer.....but the practices that some on this thread have said that they have already done I think will be deemed to either be abuse....or fraud.

Lots of words getting thrown around here.
Abusive... Yeah
Unethical... Maybe
Fraudulent... I don't think so.
Its not prohibited by law. I don't think this is defrauding anyone. Others may have different ideas. Apart from maybe revoking your account and blacklisting you there is nothing in doing whatever scheme that breaks any laws. Amex made this offer, and they didn't specify boundaries. Maybe they should. This would eliminate any such scheming. Maybe the whole point of this promotion is for Amex to prove that their cards are widely used? I definitely think the bonus that they offer is way too excessive, and I don't encourage any abuses, but they should be including such things as minimum spend and a monthly cap. Similar to the woman in England that made the news a year or so ago, when she was upset off at her husband, and put up his car for sale for $2 :) She didn't break any laws, no matter how insane her offer was.
Cheers

Thanks. Just signed up for the 5,000 pt per 10 transaction bonus.
I ahve both the Qantas FF AMEX and the Gold AMEX credit card.
I can ONLY sign up this bonus for my Gold AMEX, so I confirmed that Qantas FF AMEX is NOT eligible.

Will wait and see your comments before signing up for the 10,000pt bonus in my same account!!

You miss my point. I am not saying that they will prosecute you or anything similar....in fact I very much doubt they would....which is why I bolded the abuse aspect.

,,just that if you "abuse" the scheme that you might be busily flying through transactions up till Dec 31 and going toa fair effort to maximise your transactions, just to find your 3 months of effort gain you zero bonus points.

Thing is you will not know till 8-10 weeks after the first month finishes, or even 8-10 weeks after Dec 31.

So think of it more as a risk analysis.

Do you want to gain a very healthy bonus, guaranteed, just by maximising small transactions...or do you want to risk it all for possibly a high balance that may be denied down the track for "abuse".

The gamble and "which bet" is yours to choose.

Daaaaaamn, I should join the 'myreward' if I see this post earlier!

I just don't dare to join both or ALL 3 bonus option in one card!!

What do you think??

Those at the "AFF Meets" dinner in August would remeber Luisa say something along the lines of "Every morning we eagerly log on to AFF and scan the threads".

Also, is referred to earlier by Oz_mark, she indicated "Look for something in October".

Now betwixt SWMBO and I there are three Amex accounts in our portfolio.

Due to transaction per month basis, each of these individual accounts will been a perfect candidate for each one of the three promos.

However, the most recent one shines:
Thank you. You are now registered for the promotion listed below

i don't want get people disappointed , but you can't have all 3 codes at the same time. this has been confirmed with a rep from Amex.

therefore you need to ring Amex, and clearly ask them to put you on the reward you want.

please pass this around.

Yes, I figured this - I have signed up for each of the deals as this forum mentioned them.

Will have to call them tomorrow and ensure that I'm on the MYREWARD 5000 points per 5 transactions code.

Although, if they're offering 1000 bonus points per transaction (5000 per 5 transactions), they're obviously throwing around a LOT of points here.

This is incredible - I just effectively earned 5000 points just on the way home (Woolworths, Woolworths Liquor, Chemist, Supacheap Auto, and Red Rooster). Wow.

Business Class RTW flights for 2 on Star Alliance (via SQ Krisflyer) here I come!

yes, at the same time, i also want ppl not abusing this offer.

errr, scratch that, i am sure someone will abuse it.

Perhaps it'd a concerted effort to encourage members to use an Amex more regularly.

(... and maybe retailers as Amex holders proffer their Amex as a first option more often ...)

Anyone call up customer service and successfully cancel one bonus option and be put on the most effective one --> 5 transactions for 5,000 pts!

I have registered 3 codes too. However, I will not ring Amex as I might be able to enjoy all 3 promotions at the same time. I don't see it says anywhere that "this offer can not be used in conjunction with other promotions" or something similar to that.

The way I see it one of two things is going to happen:

  • Terms and conditions are changed to cap the number of points that can be earned under this promotion. 10,000 points per month would not be unreasonable, OR
  • There is a significant effort to detect people abusing the system via some of the dubious methods listed in this thread, and these people receive no points from the promotion.
I hope it's the first option because then we'll all know where we stand. Maybe I'll be proved wrong and some people will get 100,000 points per month via some dubious bill-paying (for example) but I very much doubt it.

lovetravellingoz put it best...

Personally I will be taking the first option and look forward to enjoying my 40,000 points at the end of the year.

I figure that if you sign up for multple promo's one of the following will happen:

1) They all payout (unlikely)
2) The first registered pays out
3) The last registered pays out
4) None of them payout

I favour 3 then 2 then 4, nevertheless will be interested in what customer service has to say about this (and I would think that Amx would have thought about people doing this!)

Is someone able to post the text of the postcard with the T&C for this promotion?
