Thanks, That's good. Does this sum it up : deposit $500 (?) and do a trade for $90 + (?).
Yes, pretty much. I actually traded the whole $450 on the grounds that it maximised my chances of recouping some of the brokerage fee if the price went up, but clearly that could also have magnified a loss.

How hard's the signup? Is there a lot of FATCA ID point business?

Ridiculously easy. Took about 60 seconds - literally. No ID was requested. Not sure how that's possible to be honest, but there you go.

Cool thanks.

Xmas bonus - I did want to sell the handful of Fairfax shares I had left...

Only pity it is not my preferred currency of VFFs.

Cost all up incl brokerage is $14.58 for 10K QF points. Happy with that.

Just note on this page

Welcome to your account

The minimum funding amount is A$450, though there is no obligation to trade. An inactivity fee will only apply if your account is inactive for two years.

If you don't plan on hanging around, make sure you close it.

My trade has settled now, so I just withdrew my funds. Strangely, my total available for withdrawal was exactly $1 less than my balance. I went ahead with the withdrawal anyway, and now it says my balance is $1.00 (and I have $1.00 available to trade) but I have $0 available to withdraw. I wonder if it forces you to keep at least $1 in the account until you close it? Clearly not a huge problem anyway, but a bit strange.

Anybody else had points post for this yet (and how quickly)?

I've opened an account, filled in details on the Qantas signup page, loaded some credit, bought some shares and withdrawn my left over dollars. I haven't sold the shares yet (didn't think that was part of the terms and conditions but have others done this for IG to consider it a "trade")?

Bought the shares 21/11.

From previous experience IG points all post on Monday for the previous week, you should see them later today. I also did my trade last week so I hope I'm right!

I've done something similar in that I've bought shares but not sold them (as per my understanding of the T&Cs). Completed this transaction last Friday so waiting to see when the points are posted.

and within an hour of posting my message above the points came through!

Nice work! I didn't see any points come through yesterday so I've sold and will wait another week to see if they post next Monday.
I notice now on the platform I have an entry under "trades history" that I didn't have before so maybe I've triggered what I need to.

Was prepared to give it a shot beyond the points, but I didn't rate the interface. So I guess I'll get the points next Monday and leave.

Sheesh didn't notice my sell order was for the day. Got a good announcement and missed the sell at price I wanted.

Anyway still cleared $3 over the trading costs. Bye IG.

D
Will you get points for this though? Or will they treat it as a cash advance? Perhaps by going through Paypal they won't? I guess if you're only loading the minimum $450 and therefore only paying a $4.50 fee, it's not exactly a big risk either way.

For those that have done this - does this post as a cash advance?

Cheers
