Does anyone know how their fees stack up, relative to competition? I'm new to the whole share trading game, but have a (semi) permanent job and after a years of just putting money in a bank account and taking it out again, figure it might be time to do something more creative and long term with my savings.

I think you only have to do the quiz if you open a CFD account.

Correct, I accidentally opened a CFD account as well, then scored 9/10 in the quiz... although my CFD account is still pending.

I tried to make a trade however it asks for my TFN however I cannot locate where I can input this on their app or on the desktop.

When it first asked for my TFN I provided it immediately and I was able to trade, however do not know where to enter the information afterwards. You may have to contact them for support.

I'm new to trading too, and funnily enough only started a week or so before I saw this offer. In my case, I use NABtrade as NAB is my main bank account. I don't rate their trading app, but their fees seem fair ($14.95, $19.95 and then a percentage depending on the value of a trade). IG is far less, I believe $8 on all trades, but the difference is that IG works on a custodian model, where they hold the shares on your behalf, instead of in your own name. I do not know the overall plus/minus of this arrangement, but post #4 here explains it well enough I feel.

In my case, I was keen to buy through IG as part of this promotion and then transfer them to NAB, however this isn't as easy as it should be. IG told me that it would work, but NAB told me it wouldn't. I decided to sell in the end.

Interesting info, thanks very much. Certainly some downsides but the price difference is worth some added risk in my mind. I'd probably be only looking to buy $10k at the most, so not a huge level of investment. Will look in to it more, but I wouldn't be concerned about them collapsing personally. A question is raised in that thread though about dividends/reinvestment etc, it is a real downside if you don't have access to those options imo

Likewise, they're backed by a pretty big banking group.

That does turn me off them, as did the fact transferring the shares was overly complicated.

When I did my first trade a box came up asking for my TFN. I entered it into that box

Sounds like it's a worthwhile offer! Does anyone know when it ends?
TIA

Couldn’t resist the lure of cheap points so just signed up. Received a call from them 5 minutes later which I thought was a bit keen. Asked me a few questions and ensured that I had registered my QFF number then I was on my way.

Should be an easy 10k pts coming up! :D

Anyone get weekly points?

Still nothing for me

Nothing here either. I joined, registered my QF number, and made a trade on 1 Dec. I have emailed support twice, and both times they have replied with "Have you registered your QF number at this link?".

Signed up today. Trading platform is very poor in my view. Made a buy order for some ANZ shares funded via paypal to my AMEX card. Will sell as soon as I can recoup my funds, including the 1% fee for using paypal.

I opened a new trading account last week, deposited $450 via BPay, purchased $400 worth of blue chip shares, sold them the next day (lost 1 dollar in the trade), and then withdrew the balance of the trading account.

No problem in withdrawing cash from trading account, and the 10,000 points hit my QF account on Monday. Too easy.

Pretty much my experience too. To clarify, we actually need to formally close the account fully to not get charged?

Had a go at this today. Set up of the account easy. Interesting that you can trade many different things with IG, unlike my normal broker Comsec.

Anyway, lost $28 on some Telstra shares. Hope to get the 10,000 points soon :)

Tried to transfer my funds to my bank account and got this message:

'Dear xx_X,

Thank you for your request to withdraw funds from your IG account by bank transfer.

Due to a relatively short time you've been trading with us, we are required to send the funds back to the original source they were deposited from. In your case it means that we can only send your money back to your Paypal account.

.

In the meantime, I recommend logging into your IG account and re-requesting your withdrawal back to your Paypal account. This will be processed as soon as possible and will take under 24 hours to allocate the funds back to your account.

Seems dodgy as I didn't use a paypal account to fund my share purchase.
