I am not that loyal to "FlyBuys" either; but over the years I have managed to score a MEL-BNE return (which I upgraded one-way using a certificate), a portable two 'phone system for the house and recently a Tefel auto toaster.

This is all without making any special effort to ensure I use a flybuys retailer; it just happened. (No NAB CC either).
That is great. Anything you get for nothing is worth it. But for me to accumulate 10,000 flybuys may end up taking 5 years as I only use Coles express for petrol occassionally, and liquorland once in a blue moon. We are woolworths shoppers and take advantage of the petrol discount through woolworths/caltex petrol.

I have been contracting at kmart tyre and auto head office. All coles myer employees get 5% discount at all coles myer owned businesses. One of my co-workers shops religiously at Coles Myer businesses and has flybuys as well. Every year he accumulates ~12,000 flybuys points and redeems points for a yearly movie pass worth ~$120. It is OK but for my liking that is not a great reward for spending ~$12,000/year at Coles Myer (assume no bonuses) and remaining loyal. If I remain loyal and spend ~$12,000/year with qff or * alliance I would be getting a lot more rewards than ~$120/year.

The toaster was 7,500 FB points, accumulated over several years; the points were to expire this month. It's probably worth about $80. It represents expenditure of over $20,000 and earned over 20,000 QFF points as well via QF points earning CCs.

I watched the way in which Coles and Myer promotions work, and for me, I can often buy things during the promotions which get me a lot of points. Generally affects the timing of my purchases than what I buy - if I can hold out for a promotion I will.

Over time, I have accumualted lots of points.

I did at one point have the source card which gave extra fly buy points but after reviewing it doscovered I wasn't getting the value back in extra flybuy points so I downgraded it to a card that gets me an extra 2c off a litre, but has no annual fee. (But still has interest free promotions)

I dropped my loyalty to Coles Myer when I dropped my shares in them (Suprisingly enough, it was soon after they dropped the shareholders discount!)

Now to bring this back to a pseudo on topic conversation, I think Flybuys has it's advantages if you are a seriously loyal CM shopper. If you're not... well then it only has very limited advantages (such as movie tickets!)

And this is post number 13,000. Things are moving along quickly now.

And much more quickly now.

A new program from DJ and with FT being done does wonders.

The last 1000 has taken less than 2 weeks.

Maybe FT having issues in the last couple of weeks has helped push this board along. It seems to be reaching a bit of a critical mass with some of the more recent arrivals to the board.

With all the references to FT here, I joined up last week. Got to say it is pretty frustrating - very slow, lots of "page not founds" etc. Is this normal or just recent server trouble?

Historically, FT has not been like that, but it has gone through patches where things are just terrible with it. Suspect that it doesn't have the capacity that it really needs.

FT has been having IT issues lately. Last I heard it is still running on just 1 server.

I don't know the answer but I am enjoying the influx of members into aff. To me this site is more relevant as most of the topics dealt with are based on Australian issues.

Flyer talk is way too big, broad, for my liking and although it suits most people here I am not keen on it other than some references here and there recommended on this site. Plus I am spending way too much time on aff so if I spent the same amount of time on ft I would not have a job.

I just hope the posting run on this site continues for a long time. I know it is not as popular as flyer talk but it is more relevant to our issues here in australia.

I find FT a good reference for many issues; It has a useful utility called "My FLyerTalk" (usercp) which I have set up with 'subscribed' topics that interest me most. (Qantas Frequent Flyer, oneWORLD, etc.). There are a couple of others, e.g. HHonors; information I obtained there enable me to get a (legit) complimentary status of GOLD without actually staying the requisite 16 nights.

I rarely venture out of those areas on that board.

I lurk in the corridors of FT, but really only ever go into a handful of forums. It has its advantages in some areas (e.g. coverage of hotel schemes). But as JohnK notes AFF wins in that it has an Australian focus. This is especially true with the Credit Card schemes where there is little of relevance to me on FT but plenty of relevance here.

Just noticed this board now had 9,928 (oops, not 9.929) posts in total. I wonder which post and poster will make the magic 10,000the post!

Congratulations AFF and all the contributors.

Now we are approaching 15,000 posts less than 3 months later.

A truely great effort by all :!: Keep up the good work. :o :D :) 8)

NM - wonder if you'll have 10% of posts by then?
Doubt it. There are lots of others posting great info and news on this site now. I expect my % of total posts measure to steadily decline.
