what a bugger i haven't been lucky enough to have a 100% bonus targeted yet. my poor little account only has 1,000 points. oh well, off i go to LM and AA

I know several of my friends ran down their balances when I went the other way for my two sons. They are now at 550,000 each following a slew of offers.

This is not targetted - anyone with a 12+ day old DM account is eligible for get the share bonus.

I'm also a half million miler but I have to say my most recent searches on KVS have shown pretty awful availability on OW out of MEL. Barely able to find QR and MH which used to show up well, far in advance now it seems to consistently be at 1 business class seat per flight available. Struggle to ever find CX at C2 out of MEL as well.

Have a feeling that future trips could end up being a LifeMiles / AA combo!

The issue is you would have to buy 50,000 miles at retail pricing to start as with share miles you cannot gift zero miles to qualify for a 50,000 bonus.
50,000 for about $1800 US plus 50,000 for $567 US is a tough call and it finishes at the end of the week.

Pulled trigger on this last night, two instant transfers... I'm going to miss DM, oh well bring on AAdvantage!

If all else fails we can use our sons points for first class between Los Angeles ,London and New York City when they become AA points. Those flights really suit us.

i know that... but what am i going to share? 1,000 points? ... not worthwhile

You can share multiple times upto a maximum bonus cap of 50000 per account. Still the multiple processing fees would add up, I guess.

Pretty expensive given its a tiered bonus as well, finding a friend to borrow 50000 would be a lot cheaper.

The processing fee is a percentage, so that stays the same.

The main weakness for this promo is the 100% bonus only kicks in for shares greater than 30,000 points per transaction. To get any bonus at all, you need to share at least 10,000 points, whereupon a 50% bonus will be given.

The Share Miles promotions are somewhat disadvantageous to those with small or no miles balances for this and similar reasons.

Fair enough - earlier this year I had an account like that, 2000 points from e-rewards (planning on the AA merger).

In October I purchased 3k points and the 5k went from there to SWMBO account which then had 10K. From there the plan went: back to me for 20k ... 40K ... 80K and 25k back so my account ended with 55K and the other with 50K.

Of course, this one is different so a strait off 50K sponsor would suit better.

What this promo has showed to me is that despite the convential wisdom of not holding balances is that its worth having someone with a balance to seed the transfers. I've done 4 and am still wighing up how many more to do, we have 3 more in our family group we can use. Will probably only do 2 more, this will end us at ~950K balances between us. Given we have about 950K in other programs and limited need/opportunity to travel next 2 years (HSC looming for my youngest) would rather not build balances too high. But of course 1.1 c is still amazingly cheap!

No it isn't. It's USD30 regardless. You're thinking of the tax I presume.

I was - completely forgot about the processing fee. Oops.

Never factored it into my calculations (e.g. here), but I suppose if you're not bouncing points back and forth between accounts, USD 30 in the grand scheme of things is small.

I think everyone will forgive you for that. You don't know how many shares people would be required to do to get the points, so its best left in the booking fees and taxes bracket anyway I think :) ... thanks for giving the link, I have had a look over it. Tell me again why I use JASA when the co-payment and points cost is so high... hmm. QF loyalty, such a strong brand lol

You can't earn QF status (and rebated points) on AAwards ;)

There's a lot of discussion on this; sometimes better for "over a coffee" or "over a drink" type situations.

Undoubtedly this is another great points buying opportunity. But surely US (or via AA merger) will be 'enhancing' their partner award redemptions in quick time. Propping up your balance sheet via a cheap points sales is an easy and quick way to realise immediate financial reporting benefit, and given that we haven't seen a devaluation on either airlines for some time I fear the timing it is very likely.

If the devaluation is anything like the recent United devaluation, things are looking bleak. That said, until we know (if at all) to what extent the points are devalued, this offer is most welcomed and I will be partaking to the fullest extent in both of my US Air accounts. Worst case, I am forced to fly Etihad (AA partner) first class to Europe instead of Thai, again...
