20% Reduction in Platinum/Platinum One Retention Thresholds (July/Aug/Sept Membership Year Ends)

Noone is loosing because of this 20% reduction, I don't agree with the negatif feeling of this status suport, on a rational level.
I suppose it depends on your definition of "loosing" (losing?) doesn't it?

Those who didn't receive it can consider themselves losers to one extent or another, as well as those in the cohort (WP/P1) who had requalified already and still received nothing. Sure they retain their status anyway, but could feel aggrieved that essentially those others who did get the "discount" of 20% on requalification got an advantage. Is it a big deal? I guess that's a subjective question for each person to decide. Probably not, but to suugest nobody's losing from this situation probably doesn't take into account all points of view imo.

Unfortunately

The status rollovers of last Financial year
DO NOT COUNT towards LTG

This headstart is useful until you hit the headwinds of expensive fares

600 SC in each of the next 2 FYs and I’ll topple into LTG

well I checked my account tonight
it would appear the rollover SC's do actually COUNT towards LTG...

I was hoping it would all end but I tend to agree I don’t think it will affect the marginal flier. I’m a multi week domestic flier and honestly I can’t ascertain a trend in lounge business. Some weeks it’s manic the next it’ll be empty.

As a data point I’ve had two flights cancelled this week on the Syd mel route so I think route consolidation will be rife due to low loads so perhaps forward bookings are sluggish.

I book high yielding fares and I’ve been able to book one week prior or less and still get the discount bucket of the fare class I’m after. Perhaps things aren’t rosy for forward high yielding bookings.

yep that's my view too

18 August is just a few weeks away and Syd - Melb fares have dropped from $150 to $129
Syd - Adel from 16 Aug $dropped from $258 to $179
Syd - Bris $149

Are you sure your lifetime SCs actually went up?

Because last time they rolled over it just reallocated existing SCs as earned in the current year, which inflates the "earned this year" number, but actually decreases the earned in past years number, leading to the same total.

They may appear to, but my experience was that the total didn't move.
This is correct - the only time that one of the QF SC support measures added to the LT tally was when they did the once-off 50% boost of SCs, which was in or about July 2020. The others, when they are rolled over, subtract that rolled over amount from your 'Already Earned' figure in the LT membership chart, and are added to the 'Earned this year' figure, in place. I guess it's too just hard for their system present it another way.

Cheers,
Matt.

I don't know where this is in the convesrtaion but I just qualified for WP, and my anniversary is end November. Qantsa stared my year with a little gift and with a few trans tasman flights in Y and a long haul to Europe from WLG in Flexi Y, I exceeded my SCs. Pity they didn't extend my anniversary date.

PS. Rollover SCs count to LTG, otherwise how would it work? Only 'gift' of 'bonus' SCs don't count, only flight SCs.

I wonder if cruising is a bit different?
My experience is similar to @justinbrett
I have flown a few RTW trips in the past 6 months and not had to wear a mask at all unless I chose to do so.
Even the USA has ditched the vaccine requirement.
USA had a vaccination requirement? I travelled there (return) from Australia Sept 2021, Oct and Nov 2022 and June 2023 - no vaccines required. I was pleased on my route back last month I didn't need to prove vaccination for my Japan layover and no masks required either.

Edit to add: just realised you might be referring to cruises too? Which I imagine did have different rules but I've never been on a cruise.

The SC rollover doesn’t help with lifetime SCs. They are yours that you’ve previously earned, and are deducted from the number accruing as Lifetime SCs the previous year. In the first year of status support, there was a grant of extra SCs, which did help the lifetime quest, but not so the last couple of years.
Would have preferred 20% SC rollover for the lifetime SC's. I'm likely to comfortably hit the retain goal for my next membership year.

Yes, the US had a vaccine requirement. Put in place in Oct 2021, amended in Oct 2022 and removed in May 2023.
Japan also had a vaccine requirement, which was removed when they fully reopened the border late last year.

The airlines were meant to check the paperwork at check in and immigration were meant to check again at entry. Doesn't mean they actually did check.

Ah, so I missed out in 2021 (was vaccinated but they didn't care, nor did hotel quarantine when I returned), in 2022 I had printouts but I didn't remember them being checked since I had to get them verified on app for Japan layovers, flew to Japan in March 2023 too, had to do the app, but the US trip via Japan in June didn't require any vaccination verification. Have now verified my memory with my husband, who did an extra two US trips last year on top of those done with me, he remembers the stat dec we had to do and the sighting of our printouts. I think overall it was differences between airlines vs immigration caring that really threw me with the US. There was no checking when you got there, and no requirement to isolate. Whereas in Japan they always had the temperature checks and app verification.

I have also done a status run to New Zealand to hold onto Platinum Status and no complaints as that is what I was willing to do to keep my Status and take advantage of all the extra perks that comes with holding this card. I fall into the above bracket of a 20% reduction needed to retain my status for another year so Thank You Qantas I am grateful for this.

Apologies I meant the attestation form as to whether you had been vaccinated

Hold on, have you been offered a 20% reduction for your next year (eg. the year ending 2024?) or just this year which you've already done a NZ SC run for?

Doubt they have the 20% reduction is for this year FF ending 31-Jul, 31-Aug or 30-Sep 2023.

If it was for 2024 that would be great, but its not.

I think it is. It allows those eligible to achieve the status for the next year, 2023-2024

No it is definitely for FF year ending 2023. Instead of having to earn 1200SC to retain WP status by 31-July-23 you now only need to earn 960 (80%) by 31-Jul-23.

This is why it sux as most people with a July anniversary would have already worked to earn the full 1200 SC by mid July when this was announced. It is a slap in the face for those who flew as required and a free pass to those who didn't fly enough.

But for FF year ending 31-Jul-24 you have to earn the full 1200SC to retain Platinum (unless they back-flip yet again).

It's for people to achieve status FF year ending 2023. They will then retain their status FF 2024 but will get no additional benefits to achive status for 2025..

Which is exactly what I said - it is all about 2023 cut-off, there is zilch support for 2024 cut-off.

Status always carries into the next year once earnt. But this year a lot of people wont have actually earnt it, but get it anyway because of a last minute 20% disocunt.
