Starting from scratch is a tall order. F1 is not like other catagories of racing, indeed since 1990 only three new teams have started from scratch and won a Grand Prix. Even the financial might of Toyota was not sufficient to win a race when they tried to start with a new team based in Cologne. Easier to buy an existing team. Red Bull was bought from Jaguar iwhich in turn was Jackie Stewart, and Force India was Jordan.
Gene Haas has confirmed they will start from scratch with chassis' built by Dallara. Have not committed to 2015 season at this time.

Still would not be surprised if they buy Caterham, especially with the news Rossi is driving for the American/Canadian races.

I do tend to agree with you. It's one thing to build your own cars but entirely another thing to buy the technical knowledge and F 1 experience that would come with purchasing an existing team.

I agree, buying an existing team would seem to be the easier choice, but Gene Haas said the new team would be based in North Carolina with a satellite in Germany or Italy.
"THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE A EUROPEAN-STYLE 'JUST THROW MONEY AT THINGS AND GO (RACING).’ THIS IS GOING TO BE A WELL-RUN, EFFICIENT AMERICAN ORGANIZATION". "WE'RE GOING TO BEAT THE EUROPEANS AT THEIR OWN GAME"
Cue the Colonel Dixie music and apple pie.

Well once they figure out how to unlock the steering wheel from 'slightly left', they may have a chance.

Seems Seb has Gremlins running around his wiring loom with tin snips, such a shame .

Ha - I used to like watching the CART racing of a decade or more ago - which was more racetrack than oval.

Far more interesting than the F1 of the era - ISTR Nigel Mansell being quoted in respect to F1 as "a monkey could drive these things" ...

Unfortunately looks like Mercedes have kept their advantage over the lengthy break. Barcelona is normally where you see the first set of major changes.

Good to see Dan running in a clear third though. He deserves a proper podium

Indeed, Indy/CART racing was always more down to earth in some respect than F1 was. They also ensured the rules meant the racing more apt the driver than pure technology alone, are they still using steel brakes rather than carbon?

Channel Ten are showing the race live which is unusual. The EU races are usually on One (like tonight's qualifying) live or at 1030ish on Ten.

They keep on chopping and changing. I prefer one as it is in HD, and F1 is filmed and designed to be broadcast in HD

Indeed which is why it's odd that it's shown in HD over here but then replaying it on BBC iPlayer only offers SD (although it offers HD for all other programs that are broadcast in HD). Odd.

I also don't get why one doesn't show practice. Surely the rights would be next to nothing and it would rate more than Monster Jam (on now versus P3)
