LOL just checked our London booking - the rates have gone the other way by around 20% :D + the drop in the currency since I made the booking 8 months ago

Yes I usually watch a hotel for about 2 years before I plan to stay there (ok it is obsessive I know!), to try and get a feel for when rates go up and down and when specials come out.

I have applied for online visas now - a very easy process.

We have also decided to go out to South Africa for a couple of weeks just before we go on the Gallipoli trip - my dogs are going to have a massive sulk. I might even end up with lifetime gold by the end of the year at this rate.

I have just been asked by RSL Tours to provide my and wifes passport number. Apparently the Turkish govt. are asking tour providors to have updated details. RSL have asked me to spread word to all people on their tours that this will be a requirement. I dont see the need to give them my number (fraud prevention etc) and i have already updated the Aust Govt. as part of the ballot request. Has anyone else received a similar request from RSL?

Most of the other tour companies have required passport details. I think the hotels require it.

I've booked with RSL tours for my day trip a few weeks before the hordes arrive!

Where do I go for this e-visa deal?

Thanks, found it via that link. I thought I'd ask and check, as I presume there are numerous sites marking up the cost like with the U.S. ESTA.

Yes there are - my first Google search brought me to an intermediary site that charged extra!

Nothing here.

We have been contacted to provide clothing size....

Posted too soon...

Email received overnight requesting PP details.

I decided to ask the Gallipoli Comms team - this is their response;

We have received emails from several other individuals regarding this request from RSL tours. We have requested confirmation from the Australian Embassy in Turkey and will advise when a response is received

My Australian-based tour group has NOT requested Passport numbers.

I'd be asking questions about WHY they would need it too ...

Ok then, seems like its not just me. Not sure what RSL will do if people dont give them?
BTW have you had confirmation of your bus # from RSL. I am on bus 6

Is anyone going to use, or does anyone have a portable wifi device for Turkey. We are trying to put the final touches of our plans for Gallipoli and pre Gallipoli throughout Europe. Mrs Atleastonce needs daily contact with clients in Australia whilst traveling. We are looking for both Europe and Turkey options. We will be traveling through UK, France, Switzerland, Austria and Germany before making our way to Turkey.

I'll be getting a Vodafone Red plan for while I'm there. Contracts are for a minimum of one month (so will cancel it when I get home). You pay for the plan +$5 a day that you use roaming, and for that you can use your calls/sms/data allowance as if you were at home. the $80 plan provides 6GB of data.

OT but may be of interest to some. We've been advised by the Australian High Commission in London that we have been successful in getting tickets for the Anzac Day Service at Westminster Abbey. No sleeping out for us! We may also go to the Dawn Service at the Australian War Memorial at Hyde Park Corner if we can rally for a 4.30am start. Events Anzac Day - Australian High Commission

Just made our last booking for this trip TK ATH-IST ... TK status match has come in handy, lounge access, PB, additional baggage :D as we sit down the back for this short hop over the Aegean Sea

Now need to focus on Restaurant bookings! Have a long list to work through courtesy of the FS concierge.

Would be keen on seeing the FS recommendations Amaroo. I am staying in a private apartment and am happy to share what the owner recommends too.

No worries, once we've had a chance to sift thru it - I'll send you a PM.
