Re: 2016 US Presidential Election

I will be interested to see whether NYC has a lot of downcast people in it when I vist again in May.

Only until it hurts surely.

Just as long as we don't call each other detritus or fascist we should be ok. :)

I am not in any hurry to go to Trump's America any more than I was to Obama's.

Re: 2016 US Presidential Election

Oh Jesus.

Lets break down your down obvious self rant,

Many have commented this a the rant akin to a dictator from Venezuela.

Hang on? Didn't Mr. Trump promise to get rid of free trade deals that capitalists love? Didn't he promise to keep the Affordable Care act?

Doesn't the American constitution have a separation of church and State?

Aren’t the One percent already profiting handsomely from low taxes and lack of regulation?

Isn't just code for alt right (Fascist wing) speech?

Really it is now past Inauguration.Get over it.
But a few things you got wrong.
The one percenters did much better under Obama than any previous President.
Fascists historically were left wing.FDR had a mutual admiration going for Mussolini.
I've remembered many occasions in the Election campaign when trump sais he was getting rid of Obamacare.
Yes he did promise to get rid of certain free trade deals-but since when have you been concerned with the desires of capitalists?Personally I have always worried what the TPP would do as it is not just a Free trade deal.
The Separation of Powers in the US is that congress will make no law respecting the establishment of a religion or prohibiting the free expression thereof-the left should take notice of the second part.

And your remark about Venezuela-pathetic.

2016 US Presidential Election

On our cruise we sat with an American couple from Kansas City. (Think they were pleased when I talked of The Wizard of Oz as they assume most people don't know of it but I had watched Sex and the City II on the plane ) Very much salt of the earth Americans. Very religious and conservative. Very strong Democrat voters. This year they voted. Not for Clinton. They felt they couldn't. Not for Trump obviously. So they ended up voting for - not sure who. They are not angry or bitter about the result and also not surprised. And therein lies the problem.

They are over it and accepted responsibility for the result but did not think Clinton was the answer.

Re: 2016 US Presidential Election

And this is the more common scenario-most do not go in for these stupid protests.
On the other hand I have met Republican voters-also on a cruise- who could not vote for Trump and wouldn't vote for Clinton.Just the way it is.If I was American I would probably have voted for Gary Johnson.

And that would have been me also. Couldn't have voted for either of them. But I probably wouldn't have voted at all.

2016 US Presidential Election

Melania looked stunning. Here's my thought. She seems so detached from everything. I wonder if she had alternative plans for her life pre election that did not involve Trump.(edit. Wrong woman :p)

Re: 2016 US Presidential Election

Trump gave a powerful, compelling, and visionary Inaugural Address that sets the right tone for the new administration to sweep away the detritus of the diseased far-left bureaucracy and Christophobic self-loathing. In its place will come low taxes, sensible regulation, flourishing industry, and a culture that is allowed to assert itself, defend itself, and celebrate its traditions once more.

Good riddance to the bad rubbish of Obama and the moribund Democratic Party.

I have to totally agree with you.

Trump has the easiest job on the planet.

Despite Obama, the US is now as big an energy producer as Saudi Arabia. With Trump promising to get rid of all the roadblocks that Obama and the EPA have put on energy production, expect energy production to increase hugely. The USA now has no desire to follow the European and Australian path of economic death of a thousands cuts by strangling cheap energy - and it will boom, leaving Europe and us in their wake.
Regards,
Renato

Really? I quite liked the outfit but what was it with the matching blue gloves? Very mono-coloured.

I'm wondering what is with Barron who seems to be dissociated from everybody. When we see children on the stage with their political parents, they usually manage to look vaguely engaged with the adults and close to one or both parents. Barron and his parents don't seem to even look at each other never mind have physical contact.

Well as I said earlier maybe there is 'stuff' going on behind the scenes.

Doped up the eyeballs probably. Is what a less generous person than I might say.

Something like this perhaps. I love the strategically placed limos, very subtle, like the ceiling.

Re: 2016 US Presidential Election

The 'White House doctors' report quote came from the internet. It is the only quick source we have of RR's dementia.

And it got on the internet from a book by a medical reporter vwho is a doctor and who interviewed some, not all,of the White house doctors.

Also Reagan lived for a little over 15 years from leaving the White House-nearly double the life expectancy from the time of diagnosis.

Re: 2016 US Presidential Election

A bit of positioning now for the next election:

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo of New York will require health insurers to expand access to medically necessary abortions and contraception.CreditVictor J. Blue for The New York TimesStepping into a period of intense anxiety over the future of the American health care system and reproductive rights, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo plans to announce on Saturday that his administration will require health insurers to cover medically necessary abortions and most forms of contraception at no cost — essentially safeguarding protections currently afforded to women.
Further distancing New York from the national drift to the right, the new state insurance regulations are designed to help keep such options open to women, as Republicans in Congress move to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which requires insurers to provide free access to most contraceptive methods, and as President Trump signals plans to fill Supreme Court vacancies with nominees who oppose abortion.
Beyond preserving parts of the Affordable Care Act, the state will now also require insurers to cover a three-month supply of contraception the first time a woman obtains it, and then a supply for up to 12 months, at no cost. At the moment, only a one-month supply at a time is typically available. And abortions deemed medically necessary by a doctor will no longer be subject to co-payments or annual deductibles.

Re: 2016 US Presidential Election

Yes Cuomo is a smart guy.
Has announced he will close NY's nuclear power station so that NY will have clean renewable energy.
So you close a plant that is a reliable producer of base load electricity with no CO2 output for renewables which have to have backup base load production which if it isn't nuclear means CO2 producing plants.Of course nuclear cant be a back up-it cant just be switched off and on.
Brilliant.

Re: 2016 US Presidential Election

^Um you can switch nuclear plant off and on...... Just a billion years in between but hey we are talking about Americans here ;)
