Re: 2016 US Presidential Election

EQ is the consolation test for people for whom there is no proof of them having ever achieved anything tangible. It's the "participation prize" for those who favour "seeming" over "doing"! http://obamagolfcounter.com/

IQ is certainly more useful but does have limitations because intelligence doesn't necessarily make people "smart".

Both IQ & EQ tend to be "cherry picked" and quoted when it suits the particular narrative people are pushing.

Maybe a "WQ" test, to quantify what sort of work ethic people have, would be more informative.

MrP (psychologist) uses a mixture of vocational testing but EQ is certainly well up there in preferred attributes.

Re: 2016 US Presidential Election

I've noticed that in business especially, some people refer to anything requiring empathy as "soft issues," often to denigrate, and because they are stuck in, 'we do it that way because that's the way we do it'. BAU.
It usually turns out to be something that they are not very good at because they may have say an engineering approach. If it is suggested that in fact what they call 'soft' is actually quite hard, they do get it sometimes once examples show the value of being more open minded, as it may lead to an advantage to the company and their bonus.

The Obama golf counter link is informative I think - he talked the empathetic talk but when it came to "walking the walk" he was doing it out on the golf course where he wasn't achieving anything other than a suntan!! Seeming, not doing.....it's a familiar theme where some believe that empathy is an end unto itself rather than a starting point. Obama spent so much time playing golf one could wonder about his priorities. Apparently during his presidency he played more rounds of golf than Tiger Woods - although, admittedly, Woods was out with back problems for part of that time.

Re: 2016 US Presidential Election

Comparison of Clinton v W Bush v Obama vacation days.

He told us via email that Obama has been on 28 vacations (including long weekends) spanning all or part of 217 days. The president has just over four months left in his term.
His predecessor, Bush, made 77 visits to his Texas ranch spanning all or part of 490 days. There were also 11 visits to his parent's home in Kennebunkport, Maine, spanning all or part of 43 days. Total: 533.
But by Knoller's count, Clinton took the fewest — 174 days of summer vacations on Martha’s Vineyard and at Jackson Hole, Wyo.

Gorge W Bush very Sad.

Re: 2016 US Presidential Election

Of course during the Presidency of George W Bush his ranch at Crawford was known as the western White House.Business conducted at the White House such as meeting foreign Heads Of State went on there.
Visitors to the ranch have included:

So to be fair you would have to ask how much White house business Obama did in his 217 days that his spokesman called Vacations.
I believe that on his visits to Martha's Vineyard and Hawaii not once did he invite Foreign leaders though he did play golf with the PMs of New Zealand and Malaysia when they were in Hawaii at the same time he was.

So you and Politifact are comparing apples and oranges.

Many Presidents have used an alternative White House. If you are ever in Georgia you should go and see the Little White House used a lot by FDR for relaxation. He also died there.

Re: 2016 US Presidential Election

But there was an article in a US magazine before the election with the IQ scores of recent US presidents and the 2 candidates.
George W-125
Obama-135
Bill Clinton-145.
Hiliary-130
Trump-156.
Cant find the article at the moment but those figures are within 1-2 points.

Is this FAKE NEWS?

Re: 2016 US Presidential Election

Goodness, last night I was watching something - history of comedy in Australia - and up popped some footage of Queensland's longest serving premier along with a Gerry Connolly impersonation of same. I don't know why, but instantly Donald Trump came to mind ....

Is this FAKE NEWS?
As I posted earlier in the thread. Yes.

He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with Bachelor of Science degree in economics and anthropology. The 156 is based on entrance requirements to the Wharton Business School. He only ever did some classes there, and as he transferred to do these after year one he did not have to meet those requirements.. He also did not complete any Wharton Qualification.

An IQ Test by Trump is even rarer than his Tax Return results. Indeed there is not record of him ever having done one.

Re: 2016 US Presidential Election

Speaking of fake news, I received this article in my inbox today:

16 Fake News Stories Reporters Have Run Since Trump Won

If nothing else positive comes from this term, surely exposing what's going on there is a monumental win for society. It's unfortunate that the man bringing it to light has so little credibility in the eyes of so many because it's an epidemic that has become so widespread, accepted and ingrained now that everyone is influenced by it to some degree.

What man? Hopefully you do not mean Trump as he is a master of using misinformation for his own benefit.

The Internets biggest asset is also its biggest flaw.

That is that anyone can publish anything on the internet.

Caveat emptor, even if the price paid is just your time, has never been more applicable.

Unfortunately many do not bother to assess the quality of the source of the information that they are reading, nor question what they read.

The problem these days has been exacerbated due to the fact that many who make money via their internet sites make their remuneration based on how many eyeballs see their webpage, and that may people are drawn to the more salacious, or exaggerated stories. Immediate feedback from tracking soon taught those with such sites that the more that they made up, or lied about things, the more eyeballs they attracted and the more money you made. So for those without morals, or scruples, Fake News is a proven way to make money.

Re: 2016 US Presidential Election

That's another good article on the subject. I guess we always knew there were a million rogues on the internet doing stuff like this. The surprise has been the extent of it in almost all the major news publications in the US. I have no doubt it's similar here. Thus we've reached a point where virtually no news source is trustworthy at the present time. And almost the entire populace using them for political and other information and citing them as facts are completely brainwashed by it to the point they have no real way of knowing what is true anymore. So you end up with threads like this representative of public discourse where everyone on both sides have been brainwashed in the same ways and are completely incapable of seeing through that. It's like watching a scientology cult argue with a heaven's gate cult. Except that's most of humanity now.

I have to admit I was heavily against Trump coming into the election and much of his vainglorious approach and some of his policies remain cringeworthy but I do hope he continues to expose and crack down on fake news as much as possible, even if it requires criminalisation. It's such a stain on society that almost everyone doesn't realise how deeply they've been deluded by it.

Re: 2016 US Presidential Election

"Trump 156" is googleable.

Snopes debunks it, mainly based on it not being a "proper test" but I have come to believe snopes is anything but impartial when it come to Trump.

Many years ago I was "assessed" at an IQ of 180. No one here would believe that .... not the least me!

In truth IQ tests are not science, and have nothing to do with real-world abilities. An impartial observer asked to give an estimated IQ for Trump would be hovering over the boxes labelled Moron, Imbecile or Idiot.
