2019 Federal Election Discussion

I voted the other day but had also applied for postal votes for us, both of which arrived today.
When voting at the booths, has anyone been asked why they were voting early? I was the last time I voted early but not this time. Maybe they get sick of people telling them all about their holidays.
I was asked if I was eligible to voebearly, but not why. I did offer that I would be out of the country, but it seemed that info was not needed.

I guess the AEC are happy to take the votes now and lessen the rush on the 18th.

This is the first election for our #1 child... he wants to pre-poll vote, but I'm going to make him line up with us and soak it all in. Something special about lining up and voting, very easy to take it all for granted.
You still have to line up for the pre vote though. Well, I did. The flyer hand out people were there, including the candidate themselves for the lower house.

You're actually more likely to meet the candidates at the pre-vote given there is generally only one location in most electorates

Betting odds still say Billy is leading despite his disastrous interviews. His latest one with Leigh Sales was pretty ordinary as he doesn't understand his policies.

Still big favourites in the betting which is not surprising.

Interestingly Liberals are now in a slight lead in the betting odds in Bass and Braddon in Tas (both currently Labor held, albeit both parties are paying less than 2:1)

Also Libs are pretty strong favourites to regain Wentworth from Phelps.

Dutton is slightly behind in Dickson and Abbot is only slightly ahead of Zali in Warringah

Well, it seems I will have a 'dis-endorsed' candidate on my House of Reps Form.

The incumbent opposition member won the seat by 2.3% last election, so will likely retain it.

I wonder who gets the $4 if I give the dis-endorsed candidate my 1 vote (It is still likely they will get at least 4% of the primary vote).

It seems to me that the Labor strategy is to trickle out the various ways they will spend all the tax money (from gearing/franking etc) over the course of the campaign.

Am I the only one who feels that this strategy makes them more vulnerable to the accusation of financial recklessness than they need to be (given most childcare workers, pensioners with bad teeth etc will be voting Labor anyway)?

Latest is that Labor not guareenting private health insurance rebate in some media outlets. Its getting to the point where financially I might be better working 4 days per week under Labor.

In the Economist magazine there was a interesting article about betting odds and why they were unreliable. I think it was just before the New South Wales election when a friend was sending offs updates.

So illegal action by the employer discriminating on the basis of political affiliation. Great they put it on writing so they can be sued.
it's not illegal & anyway fat chance of being sued successfully if company goes belly up, due to unions getting control.

Before they get proper justice, maybe all the free feeling voters could picket their office and call them scabs, dogs, and throw things at them, just like the good old days.

Mind you, didn't the ACTU boss go on TV and say .... it's ok to break unjust laws.

Air fares will really rocket if the carbon tax is implemented. Would we all still fly if air fares double?
