2022 F1 Thread

Alonso should be a good example and competitor to Stroll at Aston Martin, from what I have read elsewhere Stroll Snr has thrown a lot of resources into next years car so they might/should (?) be better next year. Its such a lottery with cars and with different choices and in the absence of such a dominant Mercedes car (until this year) I would think that Alonso, Vettel and Raikkonen would have stood a better chance of winning a drivers championship in their careers. Right now on pure talent I think that Sainz is capable of winning one, in the right car. Obviously would require Verstappen to be put into a rubbish car for that to eventuate.

Alpine confirm Piastri for 2023…..but then Piastri says no !!!.
Says he has not signed any contracts and it’s strongly rumoured it’s because he’s in talks with Mclaren about replacing RIC. He’s playing poker with high stakes 😅

Where do you think RIC will end up if he leaves (gets booked from) McLaren. Thought he had a year remaining on his contract (not that counts for much these days).

If he doesn’t go to Alpine, you’d have to wonder if he’ll end up anywhere. Would he really want to go to Williams?

I reckon it was McLaren who made him make that statement. Why would a driver who doesn't have a seat, categorically rule out a seat?

Or something completely outrageous like he’s off to Mercedes and Hamilton is retiring (probably should buy a lotto ticket if it happens!).
Is he that good that he can risk playing games with some of the key players in F1?

He was stood out in F2 last year.

Once after getting pole by about two seconds last year, IIRC, his race engineer said over the radio something along the lines of "don't know where you pulled that one from .... but ... it'll do ..."

This is F2 where the cars are basically identical.

Being stuck behind a "slow cornering but fast in a strait line" Williams for much of the race did no favours for RIC.

Yeah some questionable tactics from McL - give Ric the old-spec wing despite starting top 10, and give Nor the new part despite starting rear of grid.

Would have to take immense levels of Bravery/Stupidity to go to the 'planned' 16th April 2023 Chinese GP in Shanghai. Don't trust Xi in the slightest. Imagine all the well heeled crowd going there (probably still in facemasks with PCR on entry) only to be sent to a COVID quarantine warehouse with a mattress, dirty floor and rice & water for a week or two when a peanut salesperson is found to be a close contact.
