2023 Travel Plans

We plan on doing the ring road. Got 11 days so hope that's not too much of a rush. Won't get everywhere of course but I am sure we will return, all going well, maybe with a Faroe Islands trip next time. Getting ahead of myself though.
I’d be interested if you get to the Faroe Islands. It’s on my li

Change of plans. From exotic French Polynesian cruise to Kimberley overland in September to use a credit we have with Intrepid. I know where I'd really rather be going ;)

For 2023 we now have
Cairns/Palm Cove that goes over NYE into 2023
My short 60th birthday cruise in March on Quantum of the Seas
Winton/Longreach over Easter
Magnetic Isand for May long weekend
Intrepid Kimberley Overland (Broome return) early September. Gee accom in Broome is expensive, and limited. We of course are also very cheap :)

Have even gone into 2024. Easter cruise on the Carnival Luminosa to again use a credit. This one gave us $900 OBC if we rebooked by end of October this year for any cruise until end of March 2024.
The 2023 list grows again. Our first overseas holiday since the pandemic began. I know some will ask why but it's close, and we just want to relax. It will only be my second trip there.

Nine nights in Bali in July. Three nights Ubud, six nights Nusa Dua. Much that I'd like to stay somewhere fantastic like the Conrad, or Mulia where going much more budget with a villa in Ubud and a maybe 4* at Nusa Dua that is at least beachfront

Auckland status (double status credits) run + vacation in January
F1 Grand Prix in Melbourne in April
Possibly a trip to Hawaii in July for a conference

Havent planned beyond July yet, will see if DSC is available in March again.

January: PQQ to CNS in QF J for a couple of nights to visit the armour museum
June-July: SYD to MUC then on to CDG for some time in France before a week or so in Hungary, travelling in J on SQ

I eye the calendar every other day to look for a slot for one more trip :D

3 trips are in the planning stages
Was looking at flights to Singapore just recently and a few other flights and realized the usual prices are double $$$$ and frequency is not there so thought I better start planning.
March
BNE-AKL-WRE to see relatives and will likely spend a couple of days on Waiheke Island, have been to Auckland lots of times but never to that island.AKl-BNE to get back, likely 1 way on AirNZ and back on QF.
June
BNE-DXB-GLA Emirates. A couple of nights in Dubai and a week or so in Scotland, a few days in London before flying home.
LHR-PER-BNE on Qantas
November
BNE-SFO-NYC on UA to go for a little run, I will know by mid March if I was lucky in the ballot or have to go the expensive travel agent way.
I probably head over to Perth on a separate trip some stage and of course a little trip to Launceston is on the cards as well.

Dec/Jan - Fireworks in Sydney Harbour during domestic small ship cruise
March - New Zealand short visit
March - Australian domestic cruise
April - Japan (J flights exorbitant so flying in Y. Upgrade request HND-SYD requested!)
May - Kimberley expedition cruises
July - The Balkans (Croatia, Serbia, Albania)
August - Norway (I just booked J flights with Lufthansa for a very good price)
September - Canada and Japan
November - Spain, Portugal and a transatlantic cruise
December - South Georgia and Antarctica

I want to book a OWA to Spain and back from Santiago for the latter two trips. Hopefully by then we can book award flights with confidence segments won't be cancelled!

May bump into you in Iceland @Warks.

After having booked various flights over the weekend, we sorted out our accommodation for:
  • Tunisia
  • Balkans
  • Cote dAzur / Monaco (again, although it's kind of / kind of not to see the F1 GP but more importantly spend it with good company)
  • Iceland
  • Tunisia
  • Turin
OK .. can add Israel & Jordan to that list. Had a GUF2 that was about to expire (and had already been extended) so booked BA WTP fare and travelling in CW. That's probably me largely sorted up till the end of May now, bar a few possible work trips down to Mauritius and Madagascar.

It's good to be back in the saddle, after having done little travel this year due to the house move etc.

Ok updated for 2023
Due to some things that have to happen in early 2023 I can't travel till mid year :(
Hoping for South Korea or Tokyo in early Two or so weeks beginning of Dec in the UK meandering around

As usual some rally things! :) Hopefully WRC event in Croatia end of April, Number Plate Convention middle of May near Dresden.
Have to get to NZ for the Otago Rally, 1st April, been saying that for years.
Have sit down and work out what’s best for our remaining QF credits.
One unforeseen is Max, he is very attached to swimbo and gets very stressed at the cattery. I would like to find a good house sitter, but I think my expectations are too high.

At the moment the plans are
  • Cruise, Santiago to Buenas Aires via Antartica in February.
  • Perth and Back overnight for Ed Sheeran concert March.
  • Bhutan in March, (Review of Aid provided through COVID on behalf of the charity I volunteer for)
  • Long footy weekend on the Gold Coast in July to watch St Kilda
  • First visit to India, on a tour, in October

Another addition for 2023. Christmas and New Year will be spent in Japan with our family.

I was hoping to finally travel to my 2020 booked destination, the 5 Stans. For one reason or another (Covid!) I haven't been able to make it and was determined to go next year. However, when I contacted the tour organiser, I was told that Turkmenistan is still closed and 2 other Stans (can't remember which 2) are not playing nicely together, so it would be one or the other. This means the trip would really be 3/5 Stans and I don't want to go for that. So unless things improve in the Stans, I have no plans for 2023. :(
Change of plans for 2023. The 5 Stans are on hold for another year and instead I have booked a 29-day trip from Vienna to Dubrovnik, followed by an 8-day cruise along the Croatian coastand finishing up with another 8-day trip from Split to Bled, in Slovenia, all with Intrepid. Should be great! 😁
