2024 Qantas Inflight safety video

I guess starting with a picture of a body, and stating “this could be you”, isn’t going to get a run.

On 737-800, isn't there a switch:

So engines start, then manually switch the gens on, which automatically takes the APU gen off the bus.

Reverse on landing, start APU, put the APU gen on the bus, then shut down engines at the gate.
Yes, you could go against the manufacturer’s checklist for marketing reasons.
You ever do that with a 380? And is there video? 🤣
30 knots on the straight…definitely. Corners…ah, no. It’s a shocker of an aircraft if ATC stop you at all. You can easily lose almost a minute getting it going again.

Got the new video today on a 737-800 APW-BNE

I timed it. 737 version is 5 minutes exactly (wasn’t watching too carefully but the entire Italy segment has been removed). Video started within 10 seconds of pushback commencing. At time of disconnect we were 2 minutes in. Crew started the cabin inspection just over 3 minutes in.

Departed RWY 26 which is directly off the apron, but video was done well before we got to the holding point.

We had the new vid on QF27 SYD-SCL B787. I didn’t time it but certainly shorter than the full video. The Italy scene was still in (probably for the FCO flights). The cutdown version seems to work ok.

The Spanish language version was completely stripped back to the specific safety instructions - seatbelts, slides etc. no captioning of the location or people.

Ojalá pudiera entender solo español :(

Bet the filming for the new video is already underway - will probably be replaced at the start of next year.

The 787 version is posted upthread. it’s 6 minutes.

Italy segment would remain for lie flat seats (ie if you lose your phone contact crew)

I don't know if it's crew specific or aircraft but on a all my recent 737 flights they've just done a manual demo instead.

The screens both in seat and drop down were working as the news or the wifi video played fine.

I think it is funny they didn’t include the “remove your masks before fitting the oxygen” part that is still said after completion of the video.

I was wondering about that, after I didn't hear it in the marketing version. Virgin has included the point in its regular spiel.

I don't recall this being part of the video, I believe a flight attendant just stated this over the PA when the video concluded.

Probably because it is becoming almost redundant and may not be needed at all within the next 6-9 months. On 7 recent flights (d and i) I saw a total of 3 passengers with masks and no crew.

Even if it is a low number of pax involved, surely the instruction has to be given? I'm seeing more pax with them than that (2-3 most flights).

Its a brand new safety video. Crew are giving the mask advice on every flight. Given that there will always be some pax wearing masks on flights, the instruction will not become redundant. I think it was an oversight, but maybe @milehighclub can give an insight.

Manual demo this morning on the way down to Sydney QF505. Wonder why some are doing manual vs the video which I’ve also had in the last two weeks. At least manual doesn’t have a single mention of magic.

Did a few domestics this week and have yet to see the short-haul version of the video. Like others have mentioned crew were using the voice only safety recording and manual demo.

It was mentioned early on this thread that this is common trend lately, trying to attract passengers attention over something monotonous. It's a balance of doing it right vs becoming too entertaining and not conveying the message.

I'm not a huge fan of the MH video which seems to be a 7 minute music video.

I have flown MH over 20 times the last two years since that video and the generally version shown preflight on the aircraft is about half as long. I found it interesting to see what was trimmed ...
