For some reason some of the photos are not able to be uploaded. I know not why. The standard photo uploader hasn't worked for some months, and I am having to resort to the basic uploader. An AFF problem perhaps?

The next day I rose at about 0900 still tired, but with an agenda that I had to keep to.

Oct 19 David-1.jpg

David for one. I queued for about 40 minutes this morning and was rewarded with his magnificence once more.

Giorgio Vassari is quoted as saying that "the statue so far surpasses both in beauty and technique ancient and modern statuary that one needn't bother seeing other works in sculpture". I tend to agree. Although Rodin's 'Thinker' comes a close second for me.

A spot of shopping and it was back to the apartment to rest.

On Monday I went for a slightly longer walk than the four minutes to the Accademia I had done the day before.

I mad a point of visiting the market that Claudio had mentioned:

It very much reminded me of the Central Market in ADL, just on a slightly smaller scale.

Unfortunately not all of the food photos were able to load, so Anna, you may have a reprieve for now. ;)

Tuesday arrived and I packed up my things and made the return walk to the train station. Slightly heavy of heart that I was leaving Firenze so soon.

My chariot got a spruce up on its arrival into Rome. From the platform I headed left and outside where I found the transfer bus to the FCO airport. 4€ later, and I was on the bus for the 50 minute drive. There was one stop on the way for more passengers (who didn't materialise) and then we were there.

Taking the overhead walkway from T3 I made my way to the HH and checked in. And I did indeed grasp cup of tea in hand and update this thread as best I could. I feel that I have not lived up to early promise, but am keen to get the basis of the story down before the details fade from my foggy brain.

Hmmmn, I've always felt that the hands on David (and many - if not all - other statues around Firenze, a place I have visited many times) are out of proportion to other elements of their anatomy. (This is a serious comment, BTW).

Did you arrive in Roma Centrale? If so, any reason why you didn't take the train from there straight to FCO? It's the simplest way.

That's not good. So the other option to the US is A333? Does it have flat beds in J?

Not sure whether this is still relevant but all Munich-based A333 have been refitted with new J, including flat beds. New F has also been fitted, according to Flyertalk. I have been on one of the refurbished A333s on a YVR-MUC last month and J was quite comfortable.

Quite right. And my flat bed was flat for most of the trip, thank you.

Edit: I should have said, I made LH414, and got row 3 as well - slightly longer leg room.

Only because I wasn't aware of it. The bus was only €4, so I doubt it would have been much cheaper. One to file away for next time.

I can't recall the price when I last used it a year ago, but it wasn't much. Main benefit is that it's direct into the terminal with no stops and not subject to traffic.
