I still stand by my very unpopular opinion, that QFi should just shut shop. Let JQi cannonbalise the QFi passengers Those who don't like JQi, well can still fly on on a QF codeshare EK or whatever operated airline. Sell A380's to JQi, JQi to expand on more routes using Asian based crew whose wages are roughly AU$15,000 p.a. Keep QFd operations going where they still seem to do OK, keep QFFP as well however devalue points immediately by 20%. After devaluation 99% of those members will still remain active frequent flyer members, and those 1% [namely frequent flyer enthusiasts such as those found here on AFF] will jump ship to AA and what not. Those 1% are probably redeeming for those P, U long haul seats anyway so best to get rid of those members who are actually make the most of their points.

I like your thinking. Only 17% fly QFi anyway.....cut the gangrene out and let the body prosper. With 17% Int market share and an uncompetitive cost structure.......death is staring you square in the eye.

AJ is just doing what the board wants
His pay went up as he needs to deal with the cough the board say

Exactly, the Board need just as much TLC as Alan.

But you never know, the announcement on Thursday could include some ingenious strategic measures that could get them out of this mess and go down in history as text book management. And it will have to be text book, with its high cost base and now shrinking revenues all working against the Board.

So nobody thinks you may start to earn SC on Emirates coded flights from 27th feb? I bet there would be positive news with negative ones!

You might get away with JQ taking over the QFi services IF you used it mainly as a means to take advantage of J*'s lower cost structure. In other words, create a sort of J*i mainline airline with features similar to QFi, fold it into Oneworld, and I might give it a go.

That sounds like what LH did with OS. Austrian still exists as an airline, just that all the flights are operated by Tyrolean. Basically they managed to dump the expensive legacy contracts.

Don't get me wrong, I think that would be great. Just can't see it happening unless EK took and stake in QFi and QF exited OW

I'm not disagreeing with you, I just think anything may be possible. The power of positive thinking never hurt anyone did it!?

I just want the announcement to come soon, so we can stop speculating and start whinging!

However, for any who think that QF isn't relevant any more due to the route cuts and competition both from VA/TT and internationally, just look at the amount of mainstream media attention to the upcoming announcements. QF is still very much part of Australia's psyche, whether we realise it or not (although that doesn't guarantee success: see Holden, AN, etc...)

Agreed.. But it appears that the current QF CEO, board & management is IMO certainly not in tune with the Australian psyche &/or dynamic trends within the international aviation industry.
There have been too many wrong decisions & far too many excuses to trust any of them.

not to forget that Swiss International Airlines is actually Crossair!

$15k pa? which asian carriers? not sq, or cx, or Jl, or nh
I believe that was the ballpark in which QFi used to pay its Thai-based cabin crew.
SQ, CX, JL and NH are Asian competition, but are all based in high income countries.

I'm sure that D7, AK, PR, GA, BI, QR, EK and EY staff aren't paid as well. Not to mention the offshoots of these airlines like TR and TZ, whos staff may not have the same contracts as SQ.

A base that is geographically favourable with government backing and a low cost of living and presumably fewer employee rights doesn't guarantee success either - it also requires competent management. Just look at MH and TG, who are both bleeding money.

I would have thought that EK & EY staff would not make any low paying crew list.

I have met quite a few EK ladies from Southern and Eastern Europe who think EK pay them superb rates! Then find out the cost of living in Australia!

I guess it's all relative, however I don't think EK pays their FA's particularly well.

They have the luxury of no tax. Pay Scale for Grade II (entry level): Basic monthly salary, tax free in the UAE - AED4,020 (1 US$=approx AED 3.673).
Flying pay on an hourly basis - AED55 paid between chocks off and chocks on. Flying pay is paid in the month following accrual.
Meal allowances are paid in the currency of the country in which a night stop is made.

Accomodation and health care are provided as well for free, in the case of accomodation it's shared kitchen/living, own room in a three bedroom apartment.
