potential shutdown?? woo-hoo!! I'm gonna buy a couple of fully refundable tickets so i can get some F lounge passes!!

What F lounge? I expect one of the announcements will be the demise of that little feature and possibly the F cabin itself.

Why put 777-300ERs (77W) on the DFW route? The current 747-400ER range is 14,200km and the 77W is 14,700km – hardly worth the effort to introduce a new type of ac unless it’s for some ac efficiency. And why reduce the number of A380s in the QF fleet as its range is 16,000km which could the DFW-SYD non stop.
The problem with international routes is that the market is flooded with too many seats forcing unsustainable prices. Take EK long range ac for example. They have 92 77Ws delivered with a further 59 on order, as well as 45 A380s delivered with a further 75 on order. What do they do with 137 long range ac, and a forecast of over 270 long range ac? They run A380s onto routes to smaller cities that seem to do nothing but squeeze their opponents, such as AMS (population 0.8M), ZUR (1.2M), MAU (1.2M), MUN (1.4M), AKL (1.4M), BCN (1.6M). And one of their opponents is QF. It is well known that EK top priority is to go trans-pacific to both North and South America, routes that QF currently fly and we’ve been led into a pas-de-deux with EK, led by you know who.
If QF lease 4 of their A380s, or we lease 77Ws from our dance partner and QF routes are mostly code-shared, it’ll be a sorry day for QF’s future.

I guess airlineroute.net will be dominated by QF tomorrow......

Do you mean "employee" of Aldi or Woolworths to be like the deputy CEO or Vice President, etc lol ?
I'm pretty sure QF A380 Captains get close to $half a mil, which is close to double of what their SQ counterparts earn. And no SIN is not a cheap place to live.

A380 captains are not getting paid half a million a year... Pilot wages sound great to the media and the general public because they are inflated by allowances, often by 100%. Remember an allowance is something that is to be spent when one is away from home for 14 days at a time and staying in a hotel room.

Qantas flight crew, while paid fairly, are not rolling in cash as certain people would like you to believe. As mentioned, many foreign carriers pay what equates to far more.

And yes, plenty of QF pilots are on a salary of less than $60,000 per year.

Your not quoting real world figures, an A380 cannot do DFW SYD with a full load, it can do DFW BNE with a full load which the 744s cannot do, however a 77W can do DFW BNE with a full load and carry a lot more freight (A380s have a poor freight capability) That difference equates to around $150-200K per flight in extra revenue.

As markis10 says, the 77W is one of, if not the most capable airframe on the market.

Where would these 77W aircraft come from? EK?

exactly... and many airlines (with I guess the exception of EK that can be very coach heavy) fill their 77Ws with lots of premium seats and not so many cheap ones. JL is flying their 77Ws with as few as 135Y.

OTOH AF fit as many as 468 seats in a 77W, with 422 being Y

every airline seems to have had their hands on the Jetairways 77Ws! (TK, TG and EY spring to mind!)

AFAIK EY will be using them now as part of their deal with 9W so we can eliminate those.

Maybe the 787's that Boeing is trying to sell with QF? Anything to get rid of the Old 767's and 747's would be good!

Yes they are. The AF 4 class config only seats 303. Just shows the versatility of the aircraft.

my point was... 77W allows airlines to carry a full complement of premium passengers in a comfortable cabin, and pretty much not need to worry about economy, or being weight limited in economy like the 744 is between DFW and BNE.
