27th February Big Qantas announcement

Has anybody thought of JQ return all A330's to QF sooner for immediate upgrade allowing for earlier retirement the 767's and old 747's, and their crew/maintenance requirements. The JQ Hong Kong 320's get converted to add 2-3 rows of *class and added to JQi and JQ HK gets shut down. This reduces fleet type for QF and JQ leaving a more flexible JQ fleet that can operate out of Sin and Aus to Dps routes adding 'business class' to extra destinations, and fill in the gap till more Dreamliners come in.

QF don't have the facilities to handle more than one a month coming back.

What time tomorrow is the QF media conference?

0830 before the stockmarket opens?

Will QF Chairman Leigh Clifford be there or will it be AJ alone (perhaps supported by senior management such as Mr Strambl) who front the baying media?

ABC 7:30 report tonight had a fairly quick story (Greg Hoy) assessing what might be in tomorrow's H1 announcement. Fairly balanced and no media aviation #fails (the SQ A380 taking off when the voiceover was about Qantas was a minor one). Steve Purvinas got his 2c worth in as usual... no word from the other union reps but I presume that there's more than just LAME's jobs on AJ's chopping block. The story concluded with a 'teaser' that AJ would appear tomorrow night to discuss the big announcement.

My thoughts are with all of the QF employees who get any bad news tomorrow. Lets not forget there is a human dimension to this story and while we may have a preference for this J-class product, or that FF program... these guys have kids and mortgages.

ps. I am still disappointed that some aviation mad billionaire/fund didn't buy up Ansett assets and recruit ex-AN staff to get a 3rd airline back in the air. Perhaps those AFFers who are on FT as well could convince the WhatsApp guy to invest in the aviation industry down under, hire anyone who QF lets go tomorrow and buy up Brindy, Rex, Skywest, National, Oz, Cobham, etc. and make a competitive national fleet !

They need to tread carefully. I have heard that all (or many) of the international traffic agteements depend on QF being majority Australian owned. It would take a restructure to keep QFi in Australian hands.
As per 7:30 report this evening, it is likely QFi will be split from QFd with the latter having muchly increased foreign ownership.

(Just like Virgin Australia is already two separate entities ...)

Best wishes to the QF employees and families for tomorrow.

Hopefully the anticipation is worse than the reality.

Interesting tweet by CASA

@CASABriefing: CASA steps up safety monitoring of Qantas during its changes. More inspectors out and about. Normal practice. #aviation

They have a reputation for closing the door after the horse has bolted so to speak.

NZ are also announcing results in the morning, chalk and cheese?

Gotta wonder what aj is doing right now, sleeping peacefully or popping a few valiums in readiness for tomorrow?

Nope. Really cheap LCD "humour".

Mark Knight is a highly skilled cartoonist, terrific at accurately portraying facial features.

However little or nothing can be discussed in Oz today without the politically correct having their say (the same people who are sadly intolerant of the traditional bulwarks of our Judeo-Christian society). The Fairfax press and the ABC are top of the list for political correctness, but they have plenty of fellow travellers.

The cartoon even goes to the level of showing an A388 on the desk. Good work Mr Knight for Australia's highest selling newspaper.

That said, the Chairman of the QF Board should ideally also be in the cartoon, but his visage is not well known by the community.
