Sky: Qantas will be down to seven aircraft types from the current 11.

news reports are saying qantas called in extra security... my question is... for what? deliver bad news then call in security to intimidate workers?

Presumably to protect assets. Qantas staff are professional but they could be forgiven for setting the Qantas logo on fire at terminals around the country today.

I certainly hope the Westin has extra security. I know where I'd be heading if I was in Sydney.

First opportunity for a positive... though it could also be thrown to the orange cancer...

Though I would have thought if it was going to be cut or given to JQ it would have been announced today.

Sky: Qantas on-time performance dropped to 78% yesterday, suggesting a number of staff are already calling in sick.

I would not draw such hasty inference based on the circumstances. There were some thunderstorms in Sydney yesterday evening which may explain the drop in on-time performance.

Route cuts and fleet changes - nothing much unexpected their.
Job cut number had previously been published and not much detail on it.

So apart from those out west, no significant material route cuts?

(until the next announcement in 6 months)

Good to see the failed JQ cancer experiment in Asia stalled. That one is on you Joyce!

New lounge in BNE, alongside the HKG and LAX mentions.... Think this is new news.

HKG lounge opening listed as March 2014
No date for LAX

The only good note if you can call it that, is that route cuts are not as bad as I thought, but I am definitely feeling for our fellow WA residents..

Route cuts definitely not as bad as expected - no mention of JNB, CGK, MNL etc....

+1 to that. Just looked at options now from Perth to Singapore. Either direct on jetstar, stopover in Bali on jetstar asia or via Melbourne!

Still can't work out what business can afford to get rid of 5000 staff. What kind of management let's it get to that level?

We don't run our business with 1 extra staff let alone 5000!

Ben Sandilands: "Qantas frequent flyer loyalty underlying profit is $146 million, a record result and $9 million better than previous corresponding half."

I believe its a WIP, more to come.

You would think if they were going to do it they would have done it today, get all the bad news out in one hit rather than spooking the market, customers and staff again in 6 months time..

So The final betrayal of Perth QF customers. First hong kong and now Singapore. So where can I fly on QFI metal ex perth? Auckland over summer. Wow!!!!
