Am about to head to China
Holly what are your dates in SH and NJ?

I will be there next week also - we might put together 1st ever AFF SH / NJ drinks night?

*Best pizza I have ever eaten in my life in NJ - Ciao-Italia - right behind Sheraton Kingsley.

Just thought I would post positive experience.
I have the card.
Went online and applied for family member....sure enough 60seconds approved and limit more than me for all online!

Hi all,
I recently applied and received this card - easy online application.

I was in Hong Kong for 2 weeks and had no problems using it. Used it shopping, restaurants, hotel and at ATMs. I also used it in Macao and Shenzen with no issue. i got a great exchange rate and no fees - just like it says on the tin...

Its a great card - if only it earned FF points too.But I guess you can't have everything.

P.S. thanks to the forum for the tip on paying in the local currency. Most of the major vendors (department stores, bigger restaurants, hotels) had the option of HKG or AUD. i hate to think what the exchange rate would have been if I had selected AUD.

The website seems to be down for the second day in a row. I've tried using a different browser as well to no avail. I wonder what the problem is?

it's semi-often down overnight for "maintenance", which is obviously terrible, but it is GE we're talking about. try again tomorrow in .au business-hours, it was definitely up yesterday.

Hmmm... at least you can get balances on the 'phone with an automated VR service.

This is quite pathetic. Haven't been able to get in for 2 days now.

I called them this morning about overseas travel and they acknowledged a problem with on line accessibility.

They expect the problem to be resolved in the next 24-48 hours.

That being said, I called at 0800 and was through to an operator less than a minute later - so there didn't seem to be an influx of calls due to the system issues.

28 Degrees Mastercard

Ladies & Gents

Any experience of using a 28 Degrees Mastercard overseas? Am I right to say that if I load it with lets say $2,000 (via a BPay transaction) then no matter how I spend that money (credit card/eftpos or atm withdrawal) I will incur no fees whatsoever?

Any helpful advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: 28 Degrees Mastercard

Hi,

You will pay fees that the ATM provider charges, but 28 degrees won't charge you for withdrawals or currency fees. They will charge you for cash advances if you exceed the amount on the card, late fees etc. There is lots of info in the thread Jessica refers to above.

I used mine for the first time on a trip to Hong Kong and China last month, and it works just like it says. i'm glad I've got it.

One other thing to note - you may get asked to select a currency when making transactions overseas. Always pick the local currency, otherwise the vendor will charge you a poor rate and transaction fees.

Hope that helps

Re: 28 Degrees Mastercard

If you use an ATM to withdraw cash, some ATM operators will charge a fee that is included in the transaction amount. For example, if the ATM operator charges a $2 fee, and you withdraw $100 cash, your account is charged $102.

So I could not agree with the "no fees whatsoever", but you will not incur any foreign currency conversion fees.

Re: 28 Degrees Mastercard

Thanks Jessica, Pdl7 and NM- sounds like a must have travelling companion but also the ability to know how to use it properly.

Re: 28 Degrees Mastercard

considering bankwest qantas plat mastercard offers the same but also offers frequent flyer points why not use it instead?
