Re: 28 Degrees Mastercard

Another thing to note on the fee's.....You can withdraw for free if it is a Westpac alliance ATM. For example, in France BNP Paribas ATM's are free for cash withdrawals.

The bankwest may have no currency conversion fee's, but does it have ATM fee's?

I just used it through Europe, pre loaded it and would only withdraw small amounts (usually 100 euro's at a time). I can confirm zero fee's for the whole 2 months, and as good an outstanding conversion rate.

Re: 28 Degrees Mastercard

because it has a $140 annual fee, while 28 degrees has zero annual fee.

Interesting it was $99 just 2 weeks ago, but even at $140 it does include 8000 points and travel insurance which makes it quite worthwhile if you don't have another card with insurance.

Re: 28 Degrees Mastercard

The currency conversions are brilliant on the 28 degree card. No fee on cash withdrawal and ATM fee free on Westpac related banks overseas. The currency conversion rate is what you see on xe currency. This saves you a lot of otherwise "hidden" charges.

Re: 28 Degrees Mastercard

Do you get points on cash withdrawals?

no but its good for combined use of both forex free cash withdrawals AND purchases which are both forex free and include points.

Re: 28 Degrees Mastercard

having said all that I still keep a citibank plus account for cash withdrawals fee free overseas and have been very happy.

Certainly has its place in the list of useful cards. As always, depends on the situation for each person.

Re: 28 Degrees Mastercard

Do you get points on cash withdrawals?

The key for me here is to separate a credit card from a card for obtaining cash when overseas...

Personally I like to use a credit card whilst I'm overseas in just the way it was intended to be used - I spend on it and then at the end of the billing cycle I get the bill and make a payment. Where I need cash I use my CitiPlus transaction account with Visa Debit.

For the credit card component I used to have a 28 Degrees card, however now I use my Bankwest card so that I earn points (also convenient because my main transaction account is with them).

I think it is really worth noting that the 28 Degrees card is very unique in the Australian market in that it not only doesn't have FX fees, but it also doesn't have cash advance charges. The interest cost normally occurred on a cash advance can be avoided by putting the card into credit and then withdrawing that money.

So for me the dual approach works perfectly and I'm fine not getting points for cash transactions as these make up a very small percentage of my overall overseas spend. Given this I'd much rather get points so my BWA card will be used much more than 28 Degrees while I'm in the States next month...

PS - the above isn't directed at Serfty as I know you are well versed in OS spend etc... It was just a convenient comment to quote

Yes I'm very happy with the Citibank Plus account for withdrawing cash they have a very good exchange rate. Before this I always used in 28 Degrees card and still have it for a backup card.

The Citibank Plus account is also good for transferring money to overseas bank accounts.

What are the fees and exchange rate like on that card?

It's the same card we have been discussing in another thread. It's the BWA QF card you mention...

I use it as a credit card so don't care about cash advances.

The exchange rate is the MasterCard rate and there are no FX fees. Clear details are available on their website

My system nowadays is the Citibank Plus Visa Debit card for fee and forex free cash withdrawals, and there is very often no ATM fee either, and the 28Degree Mastercard for conventional credit card payments. These 2 cards in tandem are the perfect travel accessories :D.

With all due respect I would contend that Citi Select with 5:1 earn for o/s spend would be much more PERFECTER TRAVEL ACCESORIES than either of these cards - but I should add I also do have 28Deg for o/s cash withdrawals.

I would also add that no 2 AFF members circumstances are the same – so different card combinations will suit different people.

Not sure I know the Citi Select, do you have a link? I have the Citibank Signature Rewards Visa card but it's forex fees are way too high to ever use it outside Australia.

Re: 28 Degrees Mastercard

though, at $700/year, you need to be doing an awful lot of overseas purchases to make it cheaper than 28degrees or BWP; don't forget to spreadsheet it up before deciding.

The unlimited Priority Pass lounge access for card holder and guest would account for much of that fee.

Yes it is a great product but unfortunately there are barriers to entry that don't exist with the other products...

You need to earn $120k (I'm a salaried employee so have no control over this) and have a high credit limit.
Personally the annual few would be fine with me but $700 can be steep for many

Re: 28 Degrees Mastercard

Now if they offerred 60,000 ff points per year for the $700 then I would grab a Citi Select card. Wishful thinking right?

I'm wondering what they will offer me when my Citibusiness Gold card needs to be replaced.
