Re: 28 Degrees Mastercard

My system nowadays is the Citibank Plus Visa Debit card for fee and forex free cash withdrawals, and there is very often no ATM fee either, and the 28Degree Mastercard for conventional credit card payments. These 2 cards in tandem are the perfect travel accessories :D.

Agree completely. No need to worry about putting the 28D in credit this way. I just set up BPays to the Citi account before I go to ensure more money is available if needed.

Re: 28 Degrees Mastercard

Now if they offerred 60,000 ff points per year for the $700 then I would grab a Citi Select card. Wishful thinking right?

I'm wondering what they will offer me when my Citibusiness Gold card needs to be replaced.

Most likely a new one if you mean when it expires...

Recent reports are that they are replacing the cards and not actively trying to move people to other products

I found I once got myself in a spot by using my 28 degrees card for purchases and cash advances. I think I had put the card into positive balance prior to departure but then the hotel processed my accom stay early in the trip. Therefore by the time I took the next cash withdrawal I was taking cash advance out of the banks money for which I was charged interest. For the way I travel I now put my travel allowance for the journey on the 28 degrees card and put accom and other business expenses on my Krisflyer.

Re: 28 Degrees Mastercard

a more sensible option is to use citibank plus for withdrawls and 28degrees or bankwest platinum for purchases, surely.

different strokes for different folks I guess... but I find transferring money to cover a cash advance the next day works best for me. no putting the card into credit... that just wastes the money I'm getting 5% in a high interest account for. repaying the cash advance the next day costs me 50 cents. and having a single card reduces costs.

Re: 28 Degrees Mastercard

How does having a single card reduce costs? They are both free! And you are paying 50 cents in interest each time, or am I missing something?

personally the pre load thing doesn't make sense to me... because it is 'cheaper' for me to be earning interest on the principal rather than having it sitting in credit on the card. if you have two cards then it implies one card has a credit balance?

I understand what you are saying and I don't preload, but you were replying to someone recommending a Citibank Plus debit card. It is very easy to transfer your cash from your high interest online savings account the day before knowing you are going to withdraw $500 say. Costing you lost interest of 1 day on $500 which is bugger all.

The 28degrees is kept for credit purchases only, as it is designed for.

Well they used to offer more than that so don't rule it out!

So the Citi Plus account they hasssled me into taking may have a benefit after all when I hit Europe this year (along with the 28 degrees card!)

ah ok. wasn't aware they were referring to a Citibank debit. I've never had a debit card!

I agree too.
And it's handy to have two different cards if something goes wrong with one of them while OS.

Transfer money to the Citibank Card as required to cover cash expenses.
Use a forex fee free credit card for purchases and use the interest free period.

Works for me.....

Thanks Greenfrog I didn't know that and am happy to keep it for as long as possible.

Re: 28 Degrees Mastercard

In Japan right now and one of the 7Bank ATM's I use said that as of today (19/04) they will no longer accept Mastercard for withdrawals. I've not noticed the message on any other 7Bank ATm's though, I'll give it a try later today or tomorrow if I have time. If this is true for all 7Bank ATM's then there's an even smaller amount you can get cash from here.

How do you take cash out in Australia then? That's all Citibank Plus is, with no fee overseas withdrawals (unlike the big 4 who charge a fee plus a percentage).

I'm a big advocate for 28 deg used as a credit card as designed, plus Citibank Plus for cash (as it was also designed).

In post number one of this thread, there are links to other posts on how to optimise use of this card, including how to best get cash.

There are other threads around disgusting the merits off this card against other products, including the Citibank debit.

Other than that anecdotes do indicate the 28 degree card tends to provide a slightly more beneficial exchange rate for the consumer.

Citibank Plus is not a card only product. It is a normal daily transaction bank account, just like any normal transaction account from HSBC / Westpac / CBA / ANZ. Meaning you can draw money using your card via ATM or EFTPOS in Australia, or internet banking transfer to another bank account, or B Pay.
