Yes Baysider that works.
We qualified for US credit cards so we don't need to use cash anywhere near as much.
Now our mail is filled with credit card offers.

Is there any special way to qualify for US cards or is really a matter of having a social security number or work visa?

Shortly it will be "Hello Citibank Plus fee free debit card".

I have said hello already now need to transfer funds

Re: 28° Mastercard Cash Advances while overseas [No more free cash advances from 1/1/

I think so. The best strategy with US ATMs is to withdraw 400 or more at a time, so the fee works out at below 1%.
If you have the citibank plus card, use citibank 7/11 ATMs for no fees.

YES I too am now acquainted - but the real adv that 28Deg had over this card was ability to add Supp Cardholders - not permitted with this card Citi tell me.

Wrong - we obtained a supplementary Citibank Plus card for my partner when she took a trip recently without me.

Looks like that "famed" Citi service coming to the fore. :D

The thing is it's not a supplementary card, as it's not a credit card. It's a joint bank account if you add an additional card holder.

Correct, or just open another account and do internal transfers, its not hard!

What is not hard to some - may be difficult to others.

Wouldn't do for us to all like the one girl / guy now would it?

Not sure what your point is, transfers between AU citibank accounts are instant no matter the relationship AFAIK ;)

What I was getting at is that not everybody's circumstances are the same - I may indeed have a specific reason why I want / need to add Supp Holders rather than additional accounts be opened.

You cannot have a supplementary holder as its a savings account, so for tax purposes no point.

Ok thanks for the input - but tax is not the reason

Re: 28° Mastercard Cash Advances while overseas [No more free cash advances from 1/1/

had to call 28 degrees today (don't want to give away too much information so as to protect the identity of the operator) but one of my questions was to ask about the extra fees for cash advances. it seems too many people were using the card as a debit card, which is not its purpose.

kind of sad as there were easy ways around that (withdraw and immediately use on line banking to cover the withdrawal). appreciate citi has a comparable product, but still gotta apply for it etc etc.

arguably it was better to pay a fraction of a percent interest than pay the cash advance fee now imposed :(

Re: 28° Mastercard Cash Advances while overseas [No more free cash advances from 1/1/

Is there a dedicated thread on the Citibank Visa debit card as an alternative to the 28 Degrees card?

Re: 28° Mastercard Cash Advances while overseas [No more free cash advances from 1/1/

I now use the combination of Citi Plus account and 28 Degrees Master Card. I use the Citu card for cash withdrawls and keep enough balance in the account to cover those transactions, and retain the 28 Degrees card for purchases. This gives the best of both sides. By using the 28 Degrees card for purchases I now have the full statement period to pay it off, rather than always retaining a credit balance to avoid cash advance fees. So its likely to end up being GE Money's loss since they now fund the credit card purchases for up to 30 days for me rather than them having the use of my money for that time. So works out of for me.
