Sorry Dave, wrong again (twice in one thread!) I'm a QF Gold and received the offer, as have a couple of colleauges.

The letter that came with the offer did say that it was an offer for Platinum QFF members so I made the assumption that Norris Carter's letter with it wasn't lying. I do not see that I was wrong twice since previously I just suggested a theory of a possible reason

Dave

Maybe the letters for Gold had a similar phrase (referring to SG's), to give a feeling of exclusivity perhaps?

Nothing on my letter referring to my SG status.

I applied and received a phone call today telling me I had been approved and the 22,500 points had been credited to my account. A credit limit was suggested with the comment I could have more if I wanted. I was quite happy to accept the offered limit.

Richard.

I didn't remember reading anything about a status on my letter either. But wait, I did find a bit that stated I was getting it as a Gold Frequent Flyer. Hmm, maybe I got downgraded a couple of weeks before I thought I did...

Lighten up Dave it was in jest :o - not your fault your not an Amex or QF SG!

How long does it take from the time of applying for the card, to receiving confirmation that you are approved?

I haven't come across a financial institution that did not give you immediate notification in ages. Although its not every day that I apply for CC's.:p

From memory it took about 1 week.

Can take longer. I have had a week from application to notification from Veda that Amex did an enquiry, and a further two weeks before I heard anything.

Mine may have been quicker because I migrated from an existing AMEX card.

I received a phone call telling me I was successful and suggesting an initial limit within a week. I've had an Amex charge card with a flawless payment history since 1994 (reference was made to it in the call) so perhaps that made it easy for them.

Just to clarify my previous post, the invitation letter I received did not make reference to my gold status, but on cleaning out some papers later I see that an accompanying leaflet did.

I wish they would just sell 40000 points for $395, it would save filling out the stupid application forms

I didn't have to spend $395 to receive 40,000 points. I managed to negotiate a FULL fee wavier.:)

Sheriff,

Any secret that you care to share :?:

This is not the only AMEX annual fee I have managed to waive.

I have also managed to sucessfully waive the annual fee for the Rewards Maximiser(2nd year) and Amex Qantas Premium (2nd year).

There are no secrets, its actually quite simple,

IF AMEX WANT MY BUSINESS THEN THEY HAVE TO PAY FOR IT.

I am not prepared to pay for the privilege of using an AMEX card!

I generate their income not vice-versa.

Cheers

Sheriff
