Someone else said this already but if those points weren't transferable outside of SQ or at least not to VA directly, maybe it wouldn't end up as bad as it is now.

well at least now that i have signed up with SQ i know
1.they are linked/ partnered to VA
2.I can use my VA points with sq

so not a complete waste on their part.

Re: 5,000 Free KrisFlyer Miles for New Accounts (or 3,703 Velocity Frequent Flyer Poi

Points have a lifetime of three years, so all signing up means is that you have an intention to use within that period. If I was planning to travel with my kids and wasnt planning to do it for 2 years, I wouldnt be getting a new passport now!

In fact that was my original intention. I actually told my kids that they have received a gift from SQ of 5000 points (well, they have no idea what it is.) They were all excited and asked me "does that mean we get to fly Singapore Airlines?" "Can we fly Singapore airlines next time we go to America?".

All good until SQ panicked and blocked all transfers to VA. This made me panicked too as I don't know what would happen and was afraid those points could be stuck forever so I quickly transferred all over to VA.

Re: 5,000 Free KrisFlyer Miles for New Accounts (or 3,703 Velocity Frequent Flyer Poi

Agree it is not abuse BUT DEPENDING on what someone has done.

In this case if you have just joined up you and family members and followed ALL the rules then it is all fine. You are just using what the system allows, and what you are permitted to do. The fault lies with SQ who did not envisage what may happen, and that for many it may be more attractive to just use it to secure VA points.

HOWEVER if for example if one has falsified family members, joined up the dog, or I think (??) in VA that they have to be living with you for family pooling and they are not then YES there may have been abuse.

If there is one address with now 17 family members at it, and there actually is not, the VA or SQ could take action. Whether they will bother checking or not will probably depend on how many points SQ has bled. SQ may have cut it off before it has become too painful.

Will at least some people have abused this promo? I would be amazed if it had not been rorted. I was not tempted as both my wife and I have point balances to protect, as well as flight redemptions made but not taken. So I just joined up my two daughters who were not yet SQ Members.
Totally agree, if you've faked it, it is abuse, full stop. If however you've used the system in the way they have set it up, without faking it, it should be fine. The fact that this legitimate use might have had unintended circumstances to Singapore doesn't really change either of those two categories.

In my personal view, those panicking should stop unless they are some of the fakers. I think SQ most likely to go for the first category not the second (noting it may not be possible to get this 100% right first off, i.e. you might have 8 kids genuinely).

Re: 5,000 Free KrisFlyer Miles for New Accounts (or 3,703 Velocity Frequent Flyer Poi

Somebody in Ozbargain has reported their account has been blocked. When contacted velocity, they were told their account was going through an "audit" and should be resolved around 30 days.

I don't know......

Re: 5,000 Free KrisFlyer Miles for New Accounts (or 3,703 Velocity Frequent Flyer Poi

If you dont mind me asking, exactly how many people did you sign up? Obviously youve deemed it enough to panic for the last 3 pages of this thread ;)
If youre within the limits of the T&Cs you'll be fine, but if youve rorted the promo using false information and signed up 27 cats and 14 goldfish one would suspect something bad is coming!

TL;DR: you'll know if you genuinely need to panic or not!

Re: 5,000 Free KrisFlyer Miles for New Accounts (or 3,703 Velocity Frequent Flyer Poi

i signed up my husband ,parents, my sons, the DIL, my grandkids, SIL and her family, brother and his family....17 in total.....all within T&C.

i was already in SQ so missed out with that......

sad face :(

I personally am a tad annoyed that they have closed it down as I signed up a few people at work (they were to keep the points)....and I have a huge redemption 180,000 to do on Tuesday next week and am concerned they may suspend the accounts until they sort this mess out, thus me missing my hard to get upgrade with points for 2 to LAX. if i wasn't redeeming points so soon I would be chill, and this is also my first time doing such a big upgrade/points spend so Im already on high alert.

so not guilty, just REALLY concerned as I've worked so hard to get these points for my upcoming trip.......do you know how many mileage runs SYD_PMQ_OOL_MEL_SYD you need to do to get to 120,000 va points :)

OH and most importantly, as a self funded mileage runner (or should I say the hubby has funded it), I have PROMISED the husband he can fly business to LAX......good god I'd never hear the end of it if this all goes to pot. Now...THAT'S my reason for the panic ....my reputation is on the line.

Well according to that bloke on OzBargain, he did sign up one of his mates twice. Maybe they're just looking for dupes and the Snoopy's, Clark Kent etc of the world.

Re: 5,000 Free KrisFlyer Miles for New Accounts (or 3,703 Velocity Frequent Flyer Poi

I signed up for this almost a week ago but didnt get time to go back and do the transfer.

Logged into Krisflyer today and the 5000 points are there but when I try and link my velocity account I get this:

The partner promotion code is invalid.

Anyone else seeing that? Found a way around it?

Re: 5,000 Free KrisFlyer Miles for New Accounts (or 3,703 Velocity Frequent Flyer Poi

The only family member I used that doesn't have the same surname is my mother-in-law. All others are my immediate family - my wife, kids and parents. I didn't even sign up my sisters. Proof of ID will be very easy to produce. But I think it will be hard to proof family relationship. Wife and kids are easy, but how can I proof my parents are my parents other than we have the same surname? My birth certificate has been archived long time ago and it wasn't even in English...

You just need something showing that they and you all live at the one address if you have family pooled. As per t and c you all need to be at the one address to family pool. If you do not actually live together then it could get awkard if they audit you.

If you have not family pooled then there is no issue.

Yes, you link your account from Virgin to KF. But I am not sure if it still works.

You will be surprised what people would do. In fact it is people like this who killed the deal I believe. Seriously, do you think SQ is really that dumb that they didn't know that the points can be transferred to VA and family pool? They must have taken that into consideration before they put out promo. After all, they still own 25% of VA, so if that encourages people to join VA from QF, it would also be a win for SQ.

The problem is there are people out there really signing up for fictional character, pets and signing up same people twice! I suspect these people don't have pre-existing VA/KF points anyway so they don't really care if they get audited. Their goal is not to redeem business class flights but just to get $70 Cole's gift card for free. So in a way serves them right for being suspended.

So it looks like when VA site was "down", it wasn't coincidence after all, they were really auditing. The way they did it is probably look at all the new accounts created in that 2 days, pick out repeated names, or unreasonably large amount of account signed-up under the same address, or any suspicious activity like that.

My account wasn't suspended. I only created 2 new VA accounts during this promotion, one for my mum and the other for my MIL. My dad, my wife and my kids all have pre-existing VA account and all had previous activity flying with VA, so it was obviously genuine, and VA probably didn't bother to look into those. I only created 6 KF in total and they were all genuine immediate families. So I believe that if your account hasn't been suspended, you should be safe. But don't quote me as I always prepare for the worst and I wouldn't rush in to transfer all the precious credit card points. I would just wait for all these to settle down.

I sounded a bit nervous mainly because I have 2 redemption flight awaiting to be flown. One first class suite with SQ the other business class with EY through VA. It would be a huge loss if both were cancelled.

Not with family transfer. There is no need to be under the same address.

Also with family pool, you can only have 2 adults maximum and 4 kids maximum.

I suspect the other problem with that bloke in Ozbargain is that he signed up all 3 of his house mates (whom I presume are all adults) and family pooled them as they all live under the same roof. That is outright breach of T&C for family pooling.

Re: 5,000 Free KrisFlyer Miles for New Accounts (or 3,703 Velocity Frequent Flyer Poi

I didn't think that the VA family pooling interface let you set up a family pool more than 2 over 18s.

IMO, there are 2 separate issues in terms of T&C here:

1) Krisflyer miles: is the account genuine and not a duplicate? This is for KF to decide how much effort they go to in auditing/investigating. To my mind, they should honour the promotion if they can't show breaches.

The transfer of KF miles to a matched VA account should be allowed as it is a recognised part of both programmes

2) VA points. Presumably VA will be paid for KF miles transferred. So the only issue for VA is to establish if the family pooling and family transfer criteria are being followed, given that 3.7K VF points aren't very useful stranded in an account (the lowest redemption I can find is for 4500 points for a $20 gift card). I'm not sure how much effort VA would go to in this but I imagine that totally new family pools in last few days wouldn't be that hard to pickup

As had been said elsewhere, the problem would have been avoided by offering 4999 KF miles instead

I missed the step for linking from the VA side, all good now and 3704 velocity points succesfully transferred - thanks for the help!

KF has the right to withdraw the promotion any time they like. It's in the T&C.

The transfer of KF miles to a matched VA account should be allowed as it is a recognised part of both programmes

That's not really stopping anything. It has already been posted the way to work around it. My only concern is KF might get p**sed and decide to withdraw the ability to transfer with VA. If that's the case, I'd rather give the points back as I still value KF more.
