54 Days on the Moon

For dinner in Atlantide our favourite waiter is Herme, another that we have cruised with before. So after lunch I got the shuttle bus into the old town. Right in front of the shuttle bus was this ferry.

And a couple of minutes later passed this hotel.

A bit of laughter later that night in Atlantide.

The shuttle drops you near the Old Fort which was where the first fortified city was in between the 2 forts there.

Then something that made me think.

DSC01811.JPG.68dccdcccb21baa869c63d9bd8277b46.JPG

In September 1943 the Italians basically ended their involvement in WW2. The Germans sent a force to Corfu and the other Ionian islands. Some Italian wanted to fight the Germans but it was obviously going to be ineffective so the Italians surrended. In Corfu the Italian officers were executed by the Germans. In other places the executions were more intence and 2 -3000 Italian POWs were executed. Another 3000 died when the ships taking them to concentration camps were sunk.
After Nuremburg the German officer in charge spent 12 months in prison.

Continuing my walk.

On the second day in Corfu we awoke having 3 other large cruise ships in port. The Marella Explorer 2, Norwegian gem and the Empire of the seas.

I was off to see the Mon Repos palace where the Duke of Edinburgh was born. It was a cold and overcast day as we set off.

We got to a viewpoint with views over 2 small islands and the airport. As we got off the bus the heavens opened.
