90 Reasons NOT to Fly Qantas

That's not right. The rule you quote is only related to number of continents. Basically you must count Asia even if going swp to Europe/ME direct. There is nothing to stop you going to Asia and then DXB provided an eligible flight is available from Asia to DXB (would QF codeshare on EK be eligible for a xONEx?) There is also nothing to stop you doing swp-Europe/DXB-USA-Asia-swp.
But I did say transit DXB.Yes you can visit Asia first but we prefer to end our trip in asia to just chill out so to do that we must travel first via US.So either way QF has got us.
But there will be one DONE4 in 2015,1 in 2016 and from then BFOD or a circle asia trip with awards Europe/USA and don't have to use QF.

So if you fly Australia-DXB-Europe you cant travel to Asia on a xONEx as according to the rules you have already been there.

Yes, you can.
Rule 4.2(e)
Two permitted in Asia when one is a transfer without stopover or on direct single plane service between the Southwest Pacific and Europe.
You can visit Asia twice on an xONE4/5/6, provided one of the visits is less then 24 hours.
There is nothing stopping you from SWP-xAsia-oEU-...-oAsia-SWP.
People have also been able to ticket with SWP-xAsia-oNA-...-oEU-oAsia-SWP.

A routing of MEL-DXB-LHR-DFW-NRT-SIN-MEL is just fine.

Actually I was wrong I was looking at the Global explorer rules and you can enter Asia twice on that fare.
Here is the xONEx rule-
* Travel between South West Pacific and Europe/Middle East on a single flight number/or by surface
eg LON-SYD/MELvv, DXB-SYD/MELvv, DOH-PER/MELvv, is considered travelling via Asia.
Continents South West Pacific, Asia and Europe/Middle East must each be counted.

So no you shouldn't be able to visit asia if you transit DXB.

OW Explorer fare Rule 4(e) Only one intercontinental departure and one intercontinental arrival permitted in each continent except as follows:1. Two permitted in North America when one is a transfer without stopover.
2. Two permitted in Asia when one is a transfer without stopover or on direct single plane service between the
Southwest Pacific and Europe.

So yes you can.

All my flights with Qantas were good but then I had never spoken to the crew apart from greetings and smiles. I have to give Qantas credit for providing a service while making a loss, not many companies could do that.

I have been so onboard with QF bashing. Their incredible shrinking network, esp from MEL, drive me insane! Although I have never been one to bash their service or FF programme, which I always thought was good. BUT, I have just spent a month in the US and I am completely re-framing my mind about QF (and even VA). I flew domestic 1st over there which is good for space and absolutely nothing else. he lounges are so dire, they are a joke. Lucky I had status with o/w - 1st pax can't even access the Admirals lounge where you are met with paid food and booze and very little of it in the big hubs and nothing more than chips and nuts in the mid cities - I can't imagine what the small cities have to endure. Plus they are small, I mean really small. Of course US terminals are an exercise in patience in of themselves - but thats another thread I'm sure.

I don't know what is more inevitable about this thread, the Qantas bashers all coming out to play, or the Qantas fanboi's all coming out and saying "oh no not again!"...

Well to throw my 2c in,

- JASA's
- Retirement of plane types I love (767's / 747's)
- Replacement using plane types I'm indifferent to or dislike (not a fan of 717's)
- JASA's
- JASA's (I started to get a taste for them and then they got rid of them :( )
- iPad's in place of a real AVOD system
- JASA's
- Meal flights / non-meal flights having no difference in price.
- "Meals" on CBR to SYD / MEL flights, you used to provide the full service on these flights, now it's a sandwich if your lucky.
- "Your flight from Canberra to Sydney will be in Business, your flight from Sydney to Los Angeles will be in economy"
- That will be 60,000 points and 95% of a normal airfare in "Taxes".
- JASA's
- JQ should never ever ever show up as options in a QF search, if I actually wanted to fly el-cheapo airlines I'd type into the browser Cheap flights | Jetstar, if I ever wanted to fly el-cheapo airlines at full service costs I would type Cheap flights | Jetstar into the browser and whilst waiting for the site to load go outside and throw my wallet at the nearest person I could find.
- JASA's

Just for some balance, things I like about Qantas include

- You actually get treated like a human being 99.9% of the time (I can count on my fingers the number of times I've come across a QF staff member whom got out on the wrong side of the bed)
- Free food (ignoring CBR to golden triangle)
- The lounges, this doesn't get you guys off the hook with the QP meal offerings, however having seen what passes for a "lounge" with some other airlines we really can't complain.
- Free checked bags, ok so I'm HLO most flights, but I like it that if I do need to check a bag it's no issue and no extra cost.
- AVOD system is actually pretty good, there is certainly room for improvement, however it is also miles ahead of what some other airlines offer in terms of IFE.

Yeah that me done.

Well, I hope that Qantas will be able to get some good out of all this. In my past experience though people who FIND REASONS NOT TO DO xx_XX are usually 'glass half empty' types. I try to avoid them, by, more than likely getting on a Qantas flight! LOL!

Alas the glass is empty in Perth... at least internationally
Cathay seems to enjoy the result though

Happy wandering

Well tell you what Fred ... I would much rather fly to Sydney for a couple of days and then enjoy the luxury of the First Class Lounge before embarking on an international flight. The Qantas International Lounge in Perth (I hate to say this but ...) isn't that speccy!!! LOL.

Replace SYD with MEL. SYD is a total mess.

...when the website is down :(

Sorry.

The site is experiencing difficulties at present. We apologise for the delay and will endeavour to restore operations as soon as possible. Please try again in a short while. In the meantime you can contact us on 131313 within Australia or your nearest Qantas office for all other enquiries.

Thank you for your patience.

Was talking QF. Are you talking Y/W-J UPG or J-F UPG?

re: DFW-HKG

AA has Y / Y(MCE) / J cabins
Elites can get the Y MCE seats if booked far enough in advance. Not quite W but better than plain Y. I have only (once) been in a domestic MCE seat. Upgrades are Y --> J internationally. Either with the system wide upgrades (held by EXP(OW Emerald)) or miles+co-pay

I have read posts where it has been reported that the upgrade list at the gate exceeds (in length) the number of J seats on the aircraft. YMMV. Apparently there are a few upgraded on most flights. But the J cabin seems to be selling well for $$. It does avoid LAX/SFO.

Happy wandering

Fred

Sorry, you've lost me?

I am asking a question as to why drinks are free weekdays, but cost $$$ on weekends? QF and consistency doesn't go hand in hand...
Everyone is talking about switching to Virgin and Virgin does inconsistency just as well if not better than Qantas.

Try working out their drink policy.
