90 Reasons NOT to Fly Qantas

Some of you people don't know what you've got 'till it's gone! We used to have a several flights a day service by QFlink into BNK until JQ took over the route and developed BNK as a tourist destination. Now, if we want to get to SYD or MEL we have to fly JQ. Try that for size when you are complaining about having to pay for seats with extra legroom even if you are on the bottom tier!

#7 compares very unfavourably with Finnair which provided me, in the baggage claim area, with a pre-paid Visa card loaded with Euro135 when I arrived in BKK from HEL with no luggage.
lo
Yes! We secured two changes directly on AFF.

1) compensation for withdrawal of car service to the USA. We put forward a 10,000 points compensation suggestion and this was picked up by QF.
2) reinstatement of expired points (points transfer into a dormant account). We put forward a convincing argument on AFF and QF accepted that.

As for reasons not to fly QF - we could add these to the list:

1) lack of confirmed international upgrades
2) reluctance to address issues with check-in agents not willing to through-check bags (for example - telling passengers they must collect bags in Sydney, and make their own way to international, when pax should be through-checked and take the transfer bus). This has been mentioned on several occasions but we've been given no feedback.
3) excessive time to reach QF call centres, both in Australia and abroad (if you are a bronze member)
4) inconsistent crew - more so than any other airline that I have experienced
5) secret downgrade and refund procedures
6) Qantas imposed charges on 'award' seats in some cases costing almost as much as buying a normal revenue ticket
7) a customer charter that won't cover basics if your bag is delayed by Qantas and you are away from home. The customer charter says you can only claim if the bag is delayed more than 24 hours, even if this is entirely within QF's control
8) reluctance to place passengers on other airlines even when a flight has been cancelled for purely commercial reasons. QF will have you wait until the next QF service, or route you via SYD, rather than place you on the next available service. This also applies for overbooking.
9) premium economy passengers on services which are cancelled for purely commercial reasons are downgraded to economy, rather than upgraded to business class.
10) slow meal services

adding:

11) droopy MKII skybeds.
12) little or no restriction for upper deck a380 passengers to use doenstairs F washrooms

Not if your first leg is via DXB.Or just transiting Asia on your way to Europe.

Just did a dummy DONE4 run on QF site - SYD-DXB-LHR-JFK-LAX-HKG-SYD.

No problems.

I have done it before after transiting through Asia.

I see they have changed the rules since our last DONE4.However if you do this only 1 stopover in Asia and we always have BKK and 1 other country so still not able to do what we want.

My beef with QF is seating requests. Here's a scenario that has occurred on several occasions, both in a full economy class, and most recently - SYD/LAX and SYD/Shanghai. Phone conversation to QF
three days prior, to request seating together with travel companion (whose bookings to be fair, were made separately) I was advised that such request must be made at check-in.
Then at check-in , 2 1/2 hours before flights, advised that all seats allocated, and not possible to sit together. Not a major problem, but would have be nice to sit together, and not an unreasonable
request. But there's a twist! The man I sat next to up to Shanghai was travelling with his wife. Despite a request to sit together they were not permitted to do so. Where was she?......
...sitting next to my travelling companion! Naturally we requested a swap to a flight attendant, to be told that they would see if possible, but to wait until they could arrange!
It was finally arranged....after the meal service..about 2 hours into the flight...and with the traditional attitude of "you economy class pest".

Any pilot will tell you that a landing that you walk away from is a good landing.

A successful landing for the purposes of calculating a TOLR (take off landing ratio) is as above plus the aircraft returning to service after repair.

Some have opined that the QF1 cost more to repair than to scrap. But I suppose QF wanted to make sure none of its aircraft are written off in an accident.

I don't travel as much as I used to 10 years ago since becoming semi retired. However, I was a very FF with QANTAS. Through the years I have seen many of the benefits reduced subsatntialy. Recently purchased return flights to BNE/LHR. After trying Q site ended going to another number of sites and obtained very good price on a BA/QF flights. However, when I registered our FF numbers was advised that if I wanted to select seats that this was an Extra and would cost $50 per person per flight segment. Just another way QF have dropped to the level of the Low Coast Carriers. You would think that by being able to select the seats some six months out would assist the airline rather than be used as an extra impost. Recently flew on a couple of Asian ( full service airlines ) and was able to select seats with added impost. "Not Happy Jan"

Removal of AnySeat awards at classic rates was a great thing.

Enough of gifting status.

Completely agree. Enough cheap status via red-e-deals.

Again the take off landing ratio post never mentioned anything about a successful landing. Every takeoff has a matching landing. Gravity is funny like that.....

You can still have 4 stopovers in Asia unless you have run out of sectors.

At least boxed meals are meals and I quite enjoyed mine. What pees me off is you get a meal for about 3 hours a day (approx). I prefer the muffin and hot chocolate on Jetstar to the insult of dry biscuit on full service airline.

Quite agree. I thought of another idea for a list - 90 things Qantas could do to improve the customer experience. My pet peeves are:

1. Enforce eligibility for priority screening, check-in, boarding etc.
2. Develop a system for priority baggage. What are Q tags for anyway.
3. Serve dinner from 5pm to 9pm
4. Upgrade the "snack".
5. Grooming. i think Qantas now has the BA disease.
6. Not all frequent travellers are men. I'd like a broader range of magazines in the lounge. Or how about downloadable mags like VA.
7. Make sure the printers work

Hence I fly with both, and Jetstar:D, depending on price, timing, luggage, award seats, availability of Q lounge for Jetstar (so Jetstar to Perth, Qantas back), and what mood I'm in. I do though make sure I keep Gold status.

Indeed. I actually really enjoyed my meal in a box, and not being restrained by the tray table. I think I prefer the box, to peeling back that foil lid, and trying to find somewhere to put it, other than the lap of my seat neighbour :p

I assume the mood you are in at time of booking

Actually I was wrong I was looking at the Global explorer rules and you can enter Asia twice on that fare.
Here is the xONEx rule-
* Travel between South West Pacific and Europe/Middle East on a single flight number/or by surface
eg LON-SYD/MELvv, DXB-SYD/MELvv, DOH-PER/MELvv, is considered travelling via Asia.
Continents South West Pacific, Asia and Europe/Middle East must each be counted.

So no you shouldn't be able to visit asia if you transit DXB.

That's not right. The rule you quote is only related to number of continents. Basically you must count Asia even if going swp to Europe/ME direct. There is nothing to stop you going to Asia and then DXB provided an eligible flight is available from Asia to DXB (would QF codeshare on EK be eligible for a xONEx?) There is also nothing to stop you doing swp-Europe/DXB-USA-Asia-swp.
