Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

If I do a retro claim with AAdvantage for a flight in the previous membership year (but still within the 12 month limit), will that count towards elite status this year or is it like QF where you'll get the miles but it won't contribute to elite status qualification?

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Hi,

I have a query regarding the One World redemption chart / points required which can be found at:

http://www.aa.com/i18n/disclaimers/aadvantageAllPartnerChart.jsp#1

The points required for Australia (South Pacific) to North America in business are 62500 one way. But the points required for South Pacific to Europe in business class only seem to be 60000 - less than America.

This doesn't make sense. How are we misreading the chart?

Thanks,
Dale.

You are not misreading the chart. It's also 80K for First.

There are also plenty of options for the route between South Pacific and Europe. Some (BA particularly) will have higher taxes/charges but you will still find good value compared to a revenue ticket.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Hi everyone, I am retired QF staff and researched the AA deal valid till 28 Feb to buy miles. It is a great deal. I bought 63,000 miles which is one way to LAX from BNE or vv.
The deal is good, the miles are only valid for 18 months. At 18 months if you have not used them you can buy 1000 miles and have them all for another 18 months.
If you have lots of questions just call AA on their 1800 number in the states and ask for normal reservations and ask away. It was a great deal so thanks for posting it for people who only want to travel in J.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

You can also keep the AA account ticking over by crediting miles from hotel stays through numerous AA partner hotel chains, rental car companies and from the odd promotion (I've seen BOSE appear a couple of times - 150 AA miles for watching a video - mentioned on AFF).

Hi Lisa and welcome to AFF. I agree with you wholeheartedly. Remember that you can travel to Europe (if you want to!) for only 60000 miles in J. It is remarkable value.

Welcome to AFF Lisa.I certainly agree with you about Aadvantage.Has been great for us.
Lets hope there are not too many changes with the merger now happening.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Hi,

A query on booking flights - I want to get business class from Australia to Honolulu and then around 10 days later a business class flight to New York.

I know AA only releases seats 330 days out. I can do the itinerary for 62500 points each way as you are allowed one stopover in North America. My query is can I book the first leg to Honolulu and then 10 days alter add on the New York leg like you can do with Qantas OneWorld feares or with AA you have to book it all at once?

Thanks,
Dale.

You need to book it all at once. You can hold a reservation for 5 days. Easiest way to do this is to hold SYD-HNL at 331 days, ring back and add on HNL-JFK within the 5 days as the seats become available. Ring and change the HNL-JFK to the date you want once it becomes available/ bookable. Change of dates is free of charge.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

If my wife and I both buy enough points for our reward flight can the flights be booked from separate accounts and then the bookings somehow combined so we can be seated together? I still like her and want to sit together you see!

Would save the transfer fees to do the booking from just one account.

If that doesn't work how much is the transfer fee for 90000 points? The sharemiles site only gives the fees up to 25000 miles being transferred.

Thanks,
Dale.

If you are willing (and able) to pay the premium desk (in the USA!) booking fee, they will be happy to book both seats from the individual accounts and then (at least for AA flights) provide seating together. Usually works for airline partners as well though seats there are usually "requests"

Happy wandering

You can book awards from two accounts and once they are ticketed either select seats online or by telephone. Depending on the airline there could be an additional charge and you may need to seek the PNR for airlines other than AA.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

What's the chances of using some of my partners accounts points, ie 8000 of her points as well as 10000 of my points to book an award flight?

Is this possible or do you have to pay and transfer them?

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I think it is likely that you would have to transfer miles (but you could always ask). It may be better value just to buy some more if you are not over this year's limit.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Is it possible to use AA miles to upgrade an AA leg of a DONEx (ie. is a oneworld Explorer considered a published fare for such purposes)?

I'm toying with including DFW-ICN on a DONE but was shocked to learn it's not currently operated by the new 777 and so has sloppy J seats.

Absolutly!

I have upgraded LAX-BOS, BOS-MIA-DFW-SEA & LAX-ORD-FCO, all on LONE4's using Miles/[Donated]eVIPS.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I second that. I once upgraded an international AA flight by phoning the RTW desk in Dallas. It was immediately confirmed. I think it was 25,00 miles NRT-DFW from J to first at that time.
