A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Thanks for all the info. The 'QF reference' is the PNR? or something else?
If you have a booking on a Qantas Flight, there will be an Amadeus PNR.

This is what Qantas promote as the "booking reference".

If booked though AA, the reference will be a SABRE PNR which is different - you need to find the Qantas PNR to do this.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

If you take the AA PNR you can enter it in 'Manage My Booking' along with your surname (don't log in to your QFF account). It will find your booking plus PNR and from memory you can select your seat. You can't add your QF FF number online but if you call up and do it quoting the Qantas PNR it will take 30 seconds. There should be no problem paying the taxes online aith an aussie credit card as long as you use the US as a country with a current city and zip / post code.

How many miles in J would it be using AAvantage miles from HKG to SFO return?.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

55,000 miles each way for USA to "China" on AA & oneworld services.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I have just put on hold 2 x J flights LHR-BNE using QF10/QF604. Is it possible to add QF FF number so that I can select seats using 'my bookings' on QF website? The AA system won't accept my credit card online so I guess I need to call them to pay.

The AA site "should" accept your Aussie credit card. Certainly accepted mine last week. Trick is to leave the postcode field blank. If you put an Aussie postcode in I believe it won't work.

Can confirm this works with finding bookings on QF, including seat selection. But having to use USA postcode for CC payments (aka El Segundo method) is obsolete.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I used the finair website and worked fine.

I should have mentioned the RJ option only worked after trying with the Finnair, AB, BA and I think another OW website...
YMMV

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

It worked for me on Wednesday.

Yes, perhaps obsolete is the wrong word. El Segundo still works. Unnecessary is probably a better word. Easier to leave the postcode field blank.

You are right! Just paid online and left postcode field blank. No problems! I noticed it actually said 'postal code only required for US, Canada and UK. So I think no need now to use a made-up US zipcode.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

So it seems you can fly LAX-MEL for 72,500 points one way in F going by this https://www.aa.com/i18n/disclaimers/aadvantageAllPartnerChart.jsp#1

That would book onto the QF A380 wouldn't it ?
Does anyone know what the taxes are on that route ?
And what is award availability like ? I'm guessing not the best, must start looking 353 days out, etc ?

Thanks

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Well there is at least one F seat available for AA redemption on both 8, 9 and 10 June 2014, LAX-MEL. Nothing before then.

All on QF94 LAX-MEL on the A380.

However, it is not unknown to be routed through HNL and then to Australia ending up in MEL. Check the offered routing very carefully.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Yes that is correct re the points required.

AA only releases awards 331 (or is it 330) days out even on Qantas flights so you don't have as good a chance at picking up the award.

Lol really ?
I didn't realise QF94 gets routed through HNL ?
Or don't tell me they fly AA to HNL and then J* lol

Going MEL-LAX they are US$89.

Going MEL-LAX they are US$89.

Wow that's great, cheers.

Re: sales with x% bonus miles, how often do these sales come about ?
I read somewhere on here that the 50% bonus miles offer usually comes towards the beginning and/or end of the year ? Is that "and" or "or" ?

I won't be needing to use the miles until mid-next year so probably best to wait ?
