A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

What are the fees like to change the name of one of the pax on an AA redemption ?
Is a new PNR required for this ?

Thanks

As far as I'm award you can't change the name on an award ticket once it's been issued. You'd need to cancel the existing ticket and redeposit the miles, then hope the seats were still there to rebook them.

That's what I feared :-|

I have noticed that AA in recent times have sped things up significantly. Used to take days for purchased miles to appear in your account, now it happens it minutes. Used to take days for shared miles to appear in the recipient account, now it happens in minutes, etc.

I know that last time that upon cancelling an award the miles were redeposited into my account within hours. The cash however took a couple of weeks.

I am also doing a date change so with that in mind it would probably be best to first put on hold the seats I want with the new pax names then cancel the old PNR. And then use the redeposited miles for the new award ?

And there is a "Miles Re-deposit Fee" that applies, though depending on status and nicety of the AAgent, you may be able to have that fee waived on the basis that you are making a change. I have had the fee waived when the new trip costs more miles (due to re-routing or high ravel class/cabin). I think the fee is still US$150 .

That would seem like the best option.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I booked a QF domestic award online last week using AA miles. It showed up on my QF Manage My Booking straight away. I didn't realise however that my credit card was declined at the time and it didn't ticket. AA now wants to charge a US$75 last minute booking fee which makes the award not so good value anymore. If I do nothing, will the award booking just expire and no miles will be charged?

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I'm in a bit of a pickle. I've lost the AA record locator for one of my flights however the booking does show up in my MMB on QF.com (as the final sector SYD-MEL is on QF metal, the first sector is EY Apartments) so I do have the QF record locator.

The booking was made through AA miles so I need the AA record locator to make a change. Would QF be able to give me this ? Or can the just see their record locator ? Or perhaps QF can give me the ticket numbers and if I relay that to AA operators then AA can give me the their record locator ?

Any guidance on this appreciated.

Cheers.

You can't see it by logging in to your AAdvantage account?

Otherwise just call AA and give them the flight number and your name.

I'm not sure you can do this for flights that are not on AA metal ?

My flights are on EY and QF but booked using AA miles

All of my flights booked through AA are on metal other than AA and they all show up on the 'My Trips' page with an AA PNR.

If I log into the AA website, they also including my flight on EY 473 that brought me to Singapore a couple of days ago using AA miles.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Looking for assistance to get home from CMB to MEL anywhere from Jan 7 - 10th. 2 pax in J using AA miles. Can travel separately. CMB is rather frustratingly zoned as Asia whereas India and Maldives are zoned MEA which would open up QR and EY.

Ideally I'd like a connection through KUL that I could then potentially change to CX via HKG if seats opened up last minute. I know this is a very busy travel period!

Any suggestions?

You can pick up CMB-MAA for USD96 or CMB-BOM for USD145 on those dates. That's flying your choice of 9W, AI, UL. That might open up award possibilities out of india for you.

China eastern flies CMB-MLE a few days a week for just USD73.

You have booked the EY Apartments with AA miles?
That's possible?

It is indeed. It's the Residence that can't be booked that way.

Nizar, you logged in and still couldn't find what you needed?

Of course! I confused the silly descriptors.
(And would have been very envious had it been the Residence.)

Does anyone foresee any issues with CMB-HKG-KUL-MEL on CX and MH when theres no CMB-MEL availability? Theres no 3rd regiok transit.

Depends if there is a published fare for the route.
