A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I actually can't see the attraction... I'd find the whole butler thing really embarrassing.

Come on, trixydoza. Where is your spirit of adventure? :)
I think it would be a giggle. Not that I'm likely ever to have the experience, of course.

The butler would just be an FA by another name.
Could do with one at home, actually! :)

How does AA check this?

I know very little about this... others here are much more knowledgeable than me.

But from what I understand... a published fare is simply that... a fare determined by an airline from point A to point B, which stipulates price, routing rules, fare rules (including stopovers and other carriers).... and loaded into the system. (much like when we go to expedia or qantas etc)

So AA would tap into their system and see if CX or MH for example has published a fare from CMB-MEL, and then look at the routing and combination of carriers (if any) are allowed.

Thanks.

Does anyone foresee any issues with CMB-HKG-KUL-MEL on CX and MH when theres no CMB-MEL availability? Theres no 3rd regiok transit.

I suspect you also might run into maximum permitted mileage issues.

How does AA check this?

It's possible to view routing rules on ExpertFlyer. The airlines probably have their own way, which may be as simple as plugging the departure and origin into the respective airline's booking engine and seeing if your combination comes up as an option.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Of course! I confused the silly descriptors.
(And would have been very envious had it been the Residence.)

Don't let the fact that Apartments is the second best class on the EY 380 make you think that it's second rate.

Looks to be the world best F in my opinion

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

It is indeed. It's the Residence that can't be booked that way.

Nizar, you logged in and still couldn't find what you needed?

Cheers for the follow up.

The problem is that even though I am the passenger it wasn't booked from my account and I didn't put my AA number in the booking.

In the end I looked up the QF PNR on checkmytrip as per serfty's suggestion. It didn't spit out the AA PNR but it did tell me the ticket number which I then used to get the AA PNR through calling AA.

Not thinking that it is second rate for a moment, I can assure you. I would be astonished if it were.
But I've flown F on quite a few airlines, so the Apartments would be another - no doubt delightful - experience.
The Residence, on the other hand, is a different world!
And almost certainly will stay that way - for me, at least. :)

You see that's the thing I don't think Apartments is just another delightful F product like EK, or QF or CX or SQ.

I think it totally blows the competition out of the water at least in terms of the hard product. The amount of space on board is simply phenomenal.

They should hire you as an EY Ambassador! :)
I look forward to checking it out, some time.
Which F product do you have in second place? Or maybe, third place, as Daylight Airlines may hold second? :)

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Is this OK? My brother has a spare 30K AAmiles. I could gift him some points to make it to a reasonable amount, and then get him to book two tickets for me and the +1. For the redemption, he will use his credit card for payment. We shouldn't get in trouble right?

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

No problem redeeming for others and paying their taxes on your own card.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Advice needed - calling for collective wisdom ;-)

are there any airlines other than CX that release last minute J/F seats (under last minute I mean 2-3 days before departure)?

The reason I'm asking is that I will need to fly SYD to LED at a very short notice (2-3 days) in a couple of weeks. I've done this particular award before on CX/QF/BA combination but getting QF J/F seats last minute is almost impossible, BA sometimes release them but there is no pattern seemingly...

The name on the credit card and the AA account must match. So good to go!

Re the transfer of points - they cost money. Might be worth checking if the current promo deal works out better value for money than transferring.

Thanks. I am going to use the current 'gift' promotion - so no transferring/sharing in this instance.

Credit card does not need to match AAccount name. I booked flights from both a friend's and my account with only my card last year with no trouble.

Most people aren't that fortunate. I've had rude messages come up when I have put my name in the credit card field of someone else's account. But fortunately they don't seem to check if the name you put in the box actually matches the name on the credit card...

That's good to know! However I think the official rule is that account name must match the card? This has been a widely discussed topic elsewhere (something about the requirement stated on the booking page?)

If that's true, it could be grounds for AA to investigate (audit) or cancel the award (based on UA's handling of the mistake Europe fares).

Happy to be wrong if this is not the case!

Maybe it got through as the Aaccount holder was the traveler in each case.
