Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

It should proceed through to "Ticketed - <date>" within a few days, more likely within a few hours.

If not, you may need to call.

Thanks, wife who was last to speak with operator just informed me that she was told could take few days to be completed in AA ticket system, so all good.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Looking for some guidance please.

I have a CMB-KUL-MEL all MH J booked on 10 Jan booked as an AA redemption. I was hoping to upgrade it to CX J CMB-HKG-MEL but the CMB-HKG flight is showing J0 (no J rev seats for sale either). There's several flights HKG-MEL showing J9 so I'm hopeful they will open up last minute.

I know the AA rule about 'carrier must publish a fare between your two cities'. CX obviously publish CMB-HKG-MEL but I'm thinking my best chance to 'perfect' my booking is more like CMB-KUL/BKK/SIN-HKG-MEL. If the carrier publishes a fare between your cities do you actually have to fly the routing they publish or is there some flexibility provided you stay within MPM etc?

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

OK I've taken the plunge and bought some additional AA miles under this promo and have been reading through the threads. Gotta make a booking soon to make sure I don't suffer the impending devaluation (rather like playing those last few rounds of golf before an impending Sydney storm!)...

So I've been checking the EY site for F award seats from BNE to Europe and found a couple dates that work for me. Not sure from previous threads about whether I can tack on a J flight from PER to BNE as part of F flights on EY from BNE (all for 80k + taxes)? Also will AA treat this as one award booking on EY ie. BNE - AUH- Europe for 80k in F?

Any help appreciated!!:)

The problem will be the connection in AUH. Connections in the middle east for a pacific->europe itinerary aren't permitted unless under the DOH or QF exceptions. it will be priced as two awards. Whether or not you can tack on the PER-BNE will depend if EY has a published fare allowing travel on QF transcon. Or if the aagent makes an error :)

I would certainly try to secure the longer routing and even if unsuccessful on the first go try once or twice more. As I've mentioned upthread I've recently been successful in getting a flight from PER to Europe with two transits in Australia, one in Singapore and one in LHR with BA over-water. I'd be dumbfounded if BA had a published fare for that. Perhaps the way to do it is to spoon feed the agents the flights you want, rather than having him or her search for you. There certainly seems to be a lot of luck (or lack of) when securing an AAward.

Further to what MEL_Traveller noted, I think it would be three awards. I recently was unsuccessful getting PER-xSYD-AUH on one award. By contrast I've been able to get (in what I think is the norm) PER-xSYD-DXB on QF. The problem seems to be EY doesn't codeshare with QF on the domestic sectors, only with VA.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Just for info with EY bookings. I have a booking for my wife and I from CDG-AUH-MEL-HBA and just got charged 75K in J with obviously the last leg in J on QF.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Finally managed to find 2 seats in QF and CX J for April next year CBR-SYD-BKK//HKG-SYD-CBR. Computer couldn't find seats on the flights I had so called the Sydney number and got the Fiji centre. Took a few days to ticket.

Now seems to be a problem in that while the trip names 2 persons travelling (with seats allocated) the email with ticket details only lists me as travelling, although points have been taken for 2 travellers.

I understood the charges would be around $200 each, but my CC has only been charged $1.39 (x2) and $200 (x1).

Is there any way I can check the ticket details by entering the number into another system somewhere? Or will I have to call the centre again?

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Two PAX = two ticket numbers; with AA they will start with 001- ...

There will be a QF Amadeus PNR.

If you find that, plug into classic.checkmytrip.com and check the ticket tab.

[-]It should show both.[/-] EDIT: Sadly, this no longer seems to be the case, not even a 'ticket tab'.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I understand that PNR = Record Locator in AA?

Inserting that 6 alpha code and my name into CMT yields nothing, likewise for wife.

No trips show in QF FF either. So I suppose I will call again.

Hello AA Advantage experts,

I note a previous post indicating it can take up to 48 hours for a redemption request to be ticketed, but has anyone experienced any longer wait times?
I called and booked a flight on EY from MEL-AUH-AMM using AA miles on Monday, and still not heard anything.
Perhaps I am just anxious as I figure if I don't hear anything today, it may not be until later next week given the Christmas holiday period. Flight is not until late Jan '16.

Thanks and Regards,
Yusuf

AA's PNR is SABRE and will not work with classic.checkmytrip.com.

Call Qantas armed with your QF flight details and ask them for the Amadeus/Qantas PNR. Also ask for both ticket numbers (they should be able to look them up).

Now sometimes check my trip won't work, so try looking up your booking with the AA SABRE PNR using Your trip – View reservations on aa.com - American Airlines .

Then select:

Print trip and receipt

A pop-up should show with the ticket numbers for each passenger under the "Receipt" part towards the bottom, along with some information on the +++.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the help! Ended up doing J (RJ) BKK-HKG (BA) HKG- LHR-VIE and on return F (BA) LHR-PVG connecting J (QF) PVG-SYD-PER for total of 132.5k points and US$888. Pretty happy with outcome, albeit would have liked trying EY J or F, but timings didn't work for me. Maybe next time....:p

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Thanks serfty. Called QF and got the premium line. Chap (didn't catch his name) was very helpful and although he could see both travellers, could only see one ticket number for self.

Called AA who could see the problem and said that second ticket would be issued in 24-72 hours.

Five mins later had a call from UK saying that the problem was my CC had been declined. Informed agent there were plenty of funds available and asked to try again. Bingo! Ticketed - and I have the ticket #, and now a confirmation email from AA. :D

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Does anyone know if I book the route I want before the devaluation, and then find availability I want later on, for the dates I want (unbookable atm), whether they can do that for just the change fee, or will there be issues with a ticket lasting more than 330 days etc. ? To give the predicament in my situation to make it easier to understand, I'd love to book two tickets on Qatar to Europe return in June/July 2017, and the routes I want I can book in November 2016. Will they allow a date change, and what will the cost be if they do?

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Good morning all,
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have received the email from AA advising that my booking is ticketed, which is great, J from MEL-AUH-AMM.
It looks like what appears to be an AA e-ticket number starting with 00123...
Have never booked an EY flight with AA miles before so just wondering if this is normal? I cant see the booking details on Etihad site with the Record Locator, and also cant see it on VirtuallyThere site. Should I be trying to obtain another Airline enabled PNR?

Does anyone know if I need to call Etihad or AA to reserve seat and confirm tickets etc. I could not find on AA faqs.

Thanks in advance!
Yusuf

Call AA and ask for the EY booking reference.

The airline that issues your ticket/award will determine the 'ticket stock' that is used. In this case it is AA - so the ticket will begin with 001.

If you had used qantas to book the award, your ticket would have started with 081 (etc).

While you can sometimes reserve seats on airlines through various sites, it is always better (IMO) to reserve and book seats directly with the operating carrier. In this case it will be EY. You can follow incumbent's advice, get the EY booking reference, then either call, or head to the EY site to reserve seats.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Thanks incumbent and MEL_Traveller !

AA provided the Etihad booking reference and now all sorted. Your timely advice meant I at least got to choose from the last 5 seats un-selected in J !

Kind Regards

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Another way of getting the details from AA is through their twitter handle if you don't want to make a phone call - they man Twitter 24 hours a day @americanair and have always been really helpful to me and sorted out any ticket problems

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I have a redemption booking coming up later this week. Flights are DRW-SYD-xMEL-WLG. Looking at checkmytrip & myflights, the ticket has been issued.... for SYD-xMEL-WLG. No mention of DRW.

Am I being over cautious or should I be checking with QF and AA to ascertain where my DRW segment has gone?
