A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I don't quite follow... why (extremely) risky? I already got a F ticket on 777; the only "risk" being the possibility of not getting on The Apartment; I'm sure I'm tough enough to tolerate EY F on 777! ;-)

sorry - i meant if someone organised a boys weekend away - i.e. more than 2 tickets - and you take a punt on 4+ opening up on each leg.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Re q. 2) I have been able to book a chauffeur in AUH to my accommodation and back to the airport travelling in J on a redemption.

and, just saw this: [h=2]Terms and conditions[/h]
[h=3]Etihad Chauffeur service is available to the following guests[/h]
  1. Guests holding tickets with confirmed reservations in Business Saver, Business Freedom and First Freedom.
  2. Etihad Chauffeur is available to Etihad Guest members redeeming their miles on First and Business class.
  3. Guests travelling on Etihad Airways operated flights (although holding other airline tickets), are eligible for the Etihad Chauffeur service.

With the recent excellent TR by Boomy, I finally took the plunge and booked an EY apartment using AA points. As I have never flown EY, I have the following questions from the experts here:

1) Do reward bookings on QF (using AA points) receive chauffeur drive? (I am flying to Europe and the first leg is on Qantas)
2) Do reward bookings on EY receive chauffeur drive (in MEL/SYD, AUH, etc)?
3) I believe EY's First passengers get 2 complementary nights of accommodation in UAE (and J passengers, 1 night). Does this extend to reward bookings as well?
4) One leg of my itinerary is on 777 (no seat on A380 was available). Does EY release more F seats on A380 closer to departure?

Thanks in advance.

Now that *is* some good news :-)

So QF.com are showing a particular CX flight has J award availability but expert flyer is showing U0. Would this be bookable with AA miles?

QF (and BA) are well known for showing phantom availability for CX flights. There seems to be a bit of a lag between actual (lack of) availability, and when that filters through to both BA/QF.

The Japan Airlines tool is the best one for confirming actual (real time) CX availability (although the JL tool can under-report).

If it's on the JL site, AA can book it.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Is anyone else having issues with ticketing? I've bought points and then called AA to make an award redemption on QR. It's ~40hrs later and my miles still haven't been deducted from my account. Called AA and they said it's in the queue but could take up to 3 days to process!

I'm still waiting for one booked on Dec 30.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Waited 4 days before mine was ticketed recently.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Wow. Ok thanks guys! Would there be a potential for the airline (either the issuing or flying airline) to cancel the booking for not being ticketed in a certain amount of time? Award seats were pretty scarce on this sector so just hoping it doesn't discard it.

Not in my experience. If it hasn't ticketed 24 hrs before travel call AA again and get them to escalate it.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I may have missed discussion about this but why are Qantas flights into USA not showing up any more on the AA website? Seems to have happened since AA started flying to SYD.
Thanks for any info!

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I see what you mean; AA.com by default is only showing the AA flights and its AA*QF codeshares (with occasional QF domestic connections).

However, even selecting "All Carriers" has the same effect.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

And also not showing HA options which always got me excited when I saw 2 sAAver awards in J to the US only to have it come up as on HA.

I think many of the HA routes have been restricted and are no longer bookable as MilesAAvers .

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Though they are there as I have been searching SYD-HNL for December. But only 1 usually but occasional dates with 2 J sAAver.Decided though to pull the pin and go with 2 classic awards on QF 93 to LAX as plenty of AA sAAver awards LAX-HNL.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I booked an AA redemption 3 days ago involving a MH flight and 2 CX flights. When I look up the PNR on AA.com it says the CX flights are 'on request' but the MH flight has dropped off the reservation. Should I be worried? I know CX takes several days to ticket. Flight is in 4 days.

You should independently confirm with each operating airline that all your flights are in order. You can do this either on line (Manage booking function, look for ticket numbers), or by calling and requesting the agent to confirm ticket numbers.

All flights should show on the master AA booking.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

The answer is probably NO but it's worth the question.

..... Star Alliance J redemption on OZ connecting to domestic AA F redemption ..... On 2 separate PNRs

Can baggage be requested to be checked through to final destination ?

I'm an optimist but I can't find any supporting documents.

Anyone with similar experience to report back ?

In my most recent AA redemption, I had a few flights on MH. I had nothing but trouble with them. They changed the schedule of my outbound flight (by about 12 hours), which meant I would have missed all the remaining flights. This was "fixed" after many phone calls to AA, but my PNR was never 100% kosher again (rj was showing the right flights, but checkmytrip wasn't). For my inbound, I called them to select seat, only to be told my reservation had been canceled because I was a no show for an earlier flight (they still had me on the original outbound flight in their system). Called AA and changed all the remaining flights to CX. 24 hours before the, now defunct, MH flight, I had an email informing me the flight was open for check in and I could choose meals, etc! I guess they hadn't caught up with AA system to know they were not getting this passenger!
