Re: Bankwest Transaction account [General Discussion]

I think I have missed what is going on and have read the whole thread
I guess they are paying points per transaction ??
Can someone point me to a link I can read on this
No idea of the substance but personally I would be cautious on ME doing 1 cent transaction but $ 10 or $20 transactions MAYBE.
Thanks in anticipation

Re: Bankwest Transaction account [General Discussion]

To protect those gaming the system?

Not sure why this discussion was removed from the main thread? To leave more important discussions on how to spread scripts around to the masses?

And if anyone is interested Sydney Water has a $1 minimum payment.

No they don't. I'm making 1c payments fine. But maximum 10 every few hours.

Those accusing the macro users of fraud are not only legally illiterate but also commuting defamation. If I were a target, I would be minded to sue.

So they let the gamers make 1c transactions but force someone who made a genuine mistake to pay $1? ;)

Must remember to check my next bill includes to 80c overpayment from previous bill. :p

So have been a long time reader of these forums but today registered to share my situation.

I had my account closed by bankwest some months ago for breach of t and c's related to my transaction history etc

Yesterday 23/12 some 4 months later I got an email from QFF advising that my account had been in breach of the terms and conditions and that several transactions resulting in points were under investigation. 2 hours... yes two hours later they removed 166k points from
My account (the exact amount I had earned as a bankwest customer). I was like ok fair enough.. but then maybe 45 minutes later my qff account was closed and all points lost. I rang them and was told my account had been in severe breach of the terms and as such I was no longer eligible to hold an account.

Just thought I would share my experience.

Welcome aboard Windexwins, sorry for your loss.

I wonder how many more are going to experience this?

For those that may, will you try to burn your points before it does?

Harsh! No doubt many will be running to buy toasters this Xmas.

Kinda glad I'm a bog standard acquirer of points....

I, very briefly, considered the BW point rake but chose not to ... not for any moral crusade, simply because I couldn't be bothered.

I have the feeling such decisions could be legally challenged, but is that worth the risk? I'm guessing not.

It'll be interesting to hear if others have the same experience, or whether this just an isolated incident.

Welcome to the forum Windexwins! I too think this is harsh and I hope the festive season gets a little more festive for you soon.

Sorry to hear this. Very odd that Qantas have gone down this path as it puts them in a difficult position. There's nothing with the bankwest account that has breached the QFF Terms and Conditions.

Did you have any existing QF bookings? Curious to see if they've been impacted.

I wonder if there is more to this than has been stated?

It is interesting. It seems that Qantas would also had breached their own policy with the closure as they are required to give 21 days notice.

It's certainly interesting if Qantas have decided to do Bankwests dirty work for them.

For those playing at home, here's an extract of the QFF T&C relating to Suspension or Termination of Membership:

8.1 If a Member has committed a material breach of any of the Terms and Conditions or has failed to pay any money due under Qantas Frequent Flyer, or Qantas Club or Aquire by the due date, whether intentionally or otherwise, then Qantas Loyalty may do any one or more of the following:
(a) suspend or terminate the Member's Membership and/or the right of the Member to use the Card;
(b) reverse or cancel the Member's Qantas Points or any part thereof; or
(c) cancel or refuse to honour any Rewards (including ticketed Reward Flights), Awards, Benefits or both, that have been redeemed by or provided to the Member.

8.2 If Qantas Loyalty intends to take action under clause 8.1, it will notify the Member of its intention and the reason for that action. The Member will then have 21 days to respond to this notice by rectifying the breach (where possible) and providing any reason why Qantas should not take action (provided that Qantas Loyalty may suspend the Member's account until any review is completed). Qantas Loyalty will review the response and advise the Member of its position.

In this case, what is the "material breach"?

In this case, what is the "material breach"?

Hard to say, especially in light of this extract from the Member Obligations & Responsibilities:

7.1 Members must not:
(a) act in any way which breaches these Terms and Conditions; or
(b) abuse or misuse Qantas Frequent Flyer, any Rewards, Awards, Benefits, facilities, services or arrangements accorded to the Member as a result of Membership including by:
(i) engaging in illegal or fraudulent activities;
(ii) supplying or attempting to supply false or misleading information, or making a misrepresentation to Qantas Group Company or any oneworld Alliance Airline, Airline Partner, Qantas Interline Airline or Non-airline Partner;
(iii) selling, assigning, transferring or acquiring, or offering to sell, assign, transfer or acquire any Reward, Award, Benefit or Qantas Points other than in accordance with these Terms and Conditions;
(iv) acting in a hostile, abusive or aggressive way towards Qantas Group Company staff or the staff of any oneworld Alliance Airline, Airline Partner, Qantas Interline Airline or Non-airline Partner;
(v) acting in an unruly manner on board a flight or in any airport lounges; or
(vi) refusing to follow reasonable instructions from any Qantas Group Company staff or the staff of any oneworld Alliance Airline, Airline Partner, Qantas Interline Airline or Non-airline Partner.

And this is where Qantas' behavior is odd. Bankwest have simply completed their monthly points transfers into the receiving Qantas account. The nature of how the receiver earned them is an issue for bankwest and realistically Qantas should never know.

Any possible "breach" (even though we've discussed at length and the feeling is that there was none) would have been at Bankwests end and totally unrelated to Qantas.

It does seem as though bankwest and Qantas may have colluded in an attempt to find the "easiest" way to recover Bankwests "losses" from a poorly executed product. If bankwest actioned any changed, the FOS would get involved for many cases. If Qantas does it... the consumer has less recourse.

That said, if Qantas begin a mass culling of accounts in breach of their own terms, then I think we will need to look at taking some action.

I'd be interested to see the email allegedly received by the poster. And chance of posting it (with name etc removed of course)?
