Next time we fly into Amsterdam it will be December and maybe even snow.

We decided given the size of the airport and reduced time to skip the lounge. 😱. And just found a quiet space near the gate. Only there for 30 minutes. And a lot of walking from where we’d come.

Boarded on time and strict priority.

Better.

While the menu didn’t look amazing parts of it were surprisingly excellent.

But first. Their excellent gin. And cheese.

Entree. I thought the pasta in the middle was the main I’d ordered. Nup. The pumpkin taster was wonderful.

And the main. The sauce was delicious.

Slept really well for at least 6 hours. Watched three movies. Wish I’d never watched My Son with Hugh Jackman. The ending was awful.

And KLM give out these model pottery houses full of their gin! Nice.

AMS is on my list of "avoid if at all possible". Crowded, and long walks everywhere, like FRA, but old and bits tacked on everywhere.

Cripes! Those remind me so much of something my grandmother had - exact same front, but it was the front for an ashtray, and smoke went up the chimney. Much nicer to contain gin :)

That’s the weird thing. It wasn’t that crowded! Yet wind had caused the delay to flights. Maybe just ours.

MrP appeared to be sucking on the chimney of his house as we landed.

Could you explain rationale for catching KLM? Not thinking negatively in any way, just curious. You are using them again in December.

And (if you weren't planning it already) a bit more overview of the KLM experience. Look like lots of nice touches & detail - bed/privacy/attentiveness of FAs? Compare to QF, QR etc?

The only flights I could get using Qantas points at the time. Which was maybe 11 months ago.

We found both flights the crew were very polite and had a touch of Dutch efficiency. The flyer from LHR to AMS, the crew were simply good fun. I'd ordered a ginger ale which was on the menu, she came back very apologetic and said they didn't have it so I asked for Gin and tonic. She said, oh that's a much better choice then left us with very large bottles of gin and tonic to help ourselves. The seats on this flight were much more spacious than BA club Europe. And the meal was really nice and boxed well.

The longer flight, again crew were efficient and covered more people with less crew but they were always ready to assist with something. MrP found the seats excellent for sleeping, best he's ever slept and that includes QSuites and Emirates and Qantas F. Our original flight was for the next day but Schippol reduced flight slots so that got cancelled and brought forward, and equipment also changed to 787 which was much better. Pillows were very large. No bed topper but didn't need one. Plenty of leg room. They didn't pfaff around with serving drinks nor food. Good inflight entertainment selection. I'd be happy to fly with them again. Privacy - well unless there are closed in suites then there's the usual open space but the seats are staggered aisle to window so never directly looking across at anyone. I can just ignore them and do my thing. Plenty of overhead lockers and space to put things next to seat.

If such things matter to you, their glassware was excellent, cut crystal goblets for Champagne and funky glasses for Gin. Their cutlery was engraved and nice to handle. Their swizzle sticks were cool. Their crockery was traditional and nice. Clogs for salt and pepper shakers which were souvenired. Nice linen tablecloth and napkin.

In December we are flying with Emirates. Shock horror - we paid for the flights in J! Flying ADL - Mel - Dubai - AMS.

❌ , tick, big tick (why don't we have tick graphics?)

Already noted. Another tick. Same with Finnair. Small details count.

Staying at Sama Sama KL for two nights and three days in a club room. Great value. Large spacious hotel. Our room has huge bedroom, sitting room and huge bathroom and another separate WC.

Nice views from 9th floor club.

Really nice canapé spread but wine rather limited. The chicken wings were spicy and excellent and gone in 60 seconds. Self serve and had to wear mask at buffets. All staff wear a mask.
