AA BUY miles promo

Yes, wait until nearing the end of the year when they have in recent years, increased it to 60K (plus bonuses).

So is the suggestion to buy 40K miles on this promo (plus bonus) and then wait for them to relax the restriction to 60K hopefully sometime through the year? I'm new to the idea of buying AA miles, but I could potentially buy for both me and partner - I have a lot of good uses for AA miles.

The last two years, they have ran an end of year promotion that allowed you to go up to 60,000 purchased with another 20,000 bonus.

You can then add another 25,000 from SPG (buying 20,000 SPG miles).

And of course if you have MR, wash them though SPG for more transfer bonuses.

You can also have someone else buy 15,000 miles (also once per year) and transfer them to you, although it does mean parting with a few more dollars for the transfer.

I can't recall if this offer was only valid until end of January, but if so its now been extended until the end of February! And with the dollar now at almost 1.08.... Gaaaarh! Tempted to setup a third AA account :o

I'm tempted to buy more - at least I have another 4 accounts I could use (children x 2, M-i-L and my parents x 2). Would be of real benefit to buy in my kids accounts as we'll be using them for our flights in Sept, rather than having to transfer as well (additional cost)

Mine haven't posted yet - it's 7 weeks since 12/31 so they still have a week. Waiting on 20K for my wife and 6K for me.

Does anyone know what kind of taxes/fees are payable (approx) for a SYD or MEL flight to LAX using AA points (on QF metal obviously)? Or the taxes for a PER-SYD flight?

There appear to be some good deals to be had, especially transpacific, but I want to know what the real cost of those flights will be including points cost, booking fees and taxes/surcharges.

Many thanks to anyone who's made a similar booking!

Off the top of my head you are looking between $75-$140 in taxes depending on airports and routing, plus $25 booking fee.

FWIW I paid more in taxes on a NZ-AUS redemption than on a transpacific.

Polywaffle. 6 to 8 weeks from the end of the promo to which each of us have bought the miles. They have had promos ending most months in 1011.

For the promo ended 31 Dec, it would be between now and 29 Feb. For the promo ended 31 Jan, then mid to end March...

Thanks for letting us know about this issue. We're currently looking into the problem and hope to have more information soon! Thank you for your continued patience.

Posted by AA rep on Flyertalk today.

Just checked both my accounts and Mrs LW's - nothing. At least they are aware of the problem - thanks for posting that FT comment, grussellt.

I've just had the bonus 20,000 miles lob into my AA account tonight, for the promotion ending on 31 December. :D

Today is 56 days since the end of the promo (31 days in Jan + 25 days in Feb) and the T+C stated 6-8 weeks, anyway.

I had earlier (today) sent a request to AA, regarding the current situation with this promo, but I think that the points posting tonight would be too much of a co-incidence, judging by the current time of night in the US.

After reading the post by DC3, I checked my AA account and my December promo bonus miles, too, have posted (within the past 24 hours).

Have just checked my AA iPhone App and see that my balance has gone up by the expected 10K for me.

Now to check Mrs LW - but that can wait until tomorrow

Yes, Mrs LW has another 20K in her account.

So now awaiting the bonus miles from the offer ending January 31.
