I guess no more drink chits need to be handed out.

American Airlines Domestic Admirals Club Lounges to Offer Complimentary Alcoholic Beverages, from 1 October 2010.

Maybe Qantas could negotiate free wifi passes for Qantas Club members.

Another Service Admirals Club Members Have Asked For

FORT WORTH, Texas, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- This drink is on us! Beginning Oct. 1, American Airlines is offering travelers another benefit of membership in its Admirals Club® lounges. American will offer alcoholic beverages, including wine, beer and spirits, free of charge to customers visiting any of its domestic clubs, in addition to complimentary coffee, tea, soft drinks and juices.

"Updating our beverage selection to include complimentary alcoholic beverages is another example of American's commitment to reinvest in our premium products and enhance the travel experience for our loyal members and guests," said Nancy Knipp, American's President – Admirals Club. "Our customers have asked for free drinks and we are delighted to respond to their request by providing this service for our existing and new members at our clubs worldwide."

Domestic clubs will offer well brand liquors, as well as beers and house wines as a complimentary service on Oct. 1. Premium liquors and wines and a selection of Amora™ fresh food items will be available for purchase in all U.S. Admirals Club lounges. Menu items vary by location, and include fresh salads, sandwiches, hot entrees and small bites. Seasonal and regional specialties are featured throughout the year, with special chef demonstrations offered at select clubs. All menu items are available to enjoy in the club or for carry-out. Customers visiting an international Admirals Club location will continue to enjoy complimentary alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages as they do today.

American's clubs feature an array of amenities for business and leisure travelers to relax, refresh or recharge before, between or after flights. Members and one day pass holders at all domestic Admirals Club lounges, including San Juan, can enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi access powered by T-Mobile. For those who prefer to use the multi-functional Business Center within the club, newly installed HP Compaq 8000 Elite Business PCs allow customers to check e-mail and conduct business on a highly secure, stable and efficient device. The Cyber Cafes feature brand-new HP TouchSmart PCs with built-for-touch applications that allow customers to experience music, photos, games and video in a visually-engaging manner beyond what a mouse or keyboard can do.

American operates more than 40 Admirals Club lounges in airports throughout the world and continues to reinvest in its products with new technology and lounge refurbishments. For example, American completed extensive renovations to its Boston Logan Admirals Club in July and to its London Heathrow Admirals Club and Flagship Lounge facilities in May. American is also building a brand-new Admirals Club lounge at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), in conjunction with the airline's relocation to SFO's Terminal 2 next spring.

WiFi is free for actual Admiral's Club members or those that cough up the one day fee - not for those that enter using their QP or shiny oneworld cards.

If doing a multi AA segment flight on the same day starting from an F lounge you can actually use the free wifi card given out in the F lounge in the rest of the lounges that day.

That is really good to know. I was never aware that I could get free wi-fi in the Flagship lounges, and often headed roudn to the AA lounges to use their desk top computers.

Will definitely ask for the free wi-fi in LAX Flagship lounge next mth and then can still use at JFK! :D

Last friday we were offered free wi fi in the DFW D terminal AC-possibly was due to this change?though we were given drink vouchers still.

I know there is a regular AC and supposedly an Flagship lounge but where is it at LAX.
The free wifi will be handy when I get to DFW, as IAH(Houston) is where I am going. (when I book a ticket that is)

Terminal 4.The flagship lounge is of the AC.

Won't this simply create intoxicated people at US airports?

I have seen the way people behave in First Class on AA domestic flights and they do not seem to hold back on the free alcohol!

At T4 LAX the Flagship lounge is to the right of the service desks on the upper floor, after you come out of the lift. It's the section of the lounge that faces the left-side gates as you're walking down the terminal from security.

The door requires a key card for access - you should be given one by the staff on the ground floor if you're eligible for access to that lounge, otherwise ask the staff upstairs or wait until someone leaves - there's another staff desk checking your access credentials just inside that door to the flagship lounge.

I've had no problem picking up more than one WiFi pass at a time - either to use both the iPhone and laptop at the same time (as the WiFi pass lets you log in only on one device) or to hang on to the second pass and use it at a later stage in the trip (often when I'm heading home from IAD where there is only an AC for instance).

That is up to the bar staff to implement their training around responsible service of alcohol.

Damm, those pesky Americans have one less reason to be jealous of our QP's now.

All those drink chits used as trade currency on Flyertalk will now be worthless ;)

The drink chits I got on my last visit to the USA were date and airport stamped so mine could not be traded.

One has made a good book mark.

One less thing I’ll have to worry about when I get to the US. Will tipping still be a part of getting a free drink do you think though?

The press release states that premium alcohol will be available for purchase. IMHO QF should insist on continuing the free drink chits for the premium stuff ;)

Wonder if this is a bit of one upmanship prior to United and Continental joining forces.
