AA Status Run - Nice little earner

Just curious as to what the difference is with selecting "Business Class & higher with restrictions" vs "First/Premium with restrictions" as I always have selected the "business" option as per advice I've read on AFF?

I found restricted First resulted in restricted First pricing and not YUPP pricing. Internal US flights are 2 class, Y or F. Business fares automatically upgrades to F.

I take it that means in a practical sense F for cheaper?

Under "How do you want to Search?", click the "Price" button and select to the right of "Number of Stops": "No Preference"

Under "Business Class and Higher:", click the "With Restrictions" button.

thanks. I have been using the F with restrictions until now. good tip. They also book into F and cheaper. well done.

8 sectors inbound. That is impressive. Did you use another Multi-City booking engine or the AA Multi-City booking engine?

I actually got it to throw up a 14 sector route for me with the cost about $1,700 I think from memory.

i've found if u want transcontinental first in a 3 class config you need to select F with restrictions - same pricing as business with restrictions, just a nicer seat! so, YMMV.

AA's. I'm yet to find another multi-city booking engine that can handle >6 city pairs efficiently for discounted premium fares. If anyone finds one let me (us) know! ;)

Yeah, pretty sure it was. I've tried so many cities the last few days I've forgotten which combo it was.

Yup. Know that feeling. It is a good learning exercise and one that will be put to practice in a month or so.

Thanks again to Gold Member for this thread. Whilst some of the later iterations are getting a little on the crazy side, I've held a reservation for 300SCs for ~$630. That's all I need and I can do it in a day. :) The fact that it's a day of my honeymoon is another matter... (fiancee wasn't terribly happy with me wasting a day in NYC, but does enjoy the F lounge so was happy for me to waste my money on a little SC run ;)). 17 flights on the honeymoon in total!

Question though - how do you actually book it?? I seem to be having the same issues I had years ago, whereby the AA.com site only accepts US credit cards (Australia isn't an option in the drop-down list), and the Australian site doesn't have the restricted F fares. I've got the itinerary on hold so will call them tomorrow, but any tips? It's been a while, but I seemed to remember this being sorted out when I booked some AA flights about a year ago...

On this basis I should I be confident that the flight falls into band 3? Or is there a definitive calculator somewhere that AA or QF use?

It's been a while since I did it, but I did LAX-DFW-MCI a few times each year for a few years, and LAX-DFW always gave me 120 QFF SCs when flying F. Nice little earner that one - from SYD you'd make Gold on the first return trip, and Platinum on the second. :D

Cheers,
- Febs.

Firstly the day you're 'wasting' in NYC why not send your fiancee (or SWMBO by then) on a day trip to Woodbury Common NJ where there are some ridiculously cheap clothes from designer brands of offer. That should keep her out of mischief for a while....

We recently booked KUPP's over the US AA.com site using our Australian credit cards & this is where Serfty's 'el segundo' method kicks in. You need to put a US address in the address field, however this does not need to match your credit card billing address which is in Oz. We just put our usual address including 'Australia' in the first couple of lines in the address field then under "city" put Redondo Beach CA 90277 USA in the other fields.

As your booking is on hold simply retrieve before it autocancels at midnight then click on the link to pay & do the above. There is no need to call AA at all. It didn't take too long after we paid for us to receive the eticket confirmation, maybe within an hour.

Because we're doing that a few days before (it'll be my third time there :)). Can't let her have all the fun! ;)

Even more impressed if no body cavities were searched in transit ;)
With such transits you generally stay airside most of the time so security is not that much of an issue.

Those "business special" Caribbean flight do book into First on two class domestic USA flights but will book into Business on three class flights. For more tips on booking these please see this dedicated thread:

Firstly the day you're 'wasting' in NYC...

Just re-read this and think my post might've been misunderstood. We're in NYC for a week towards the end of our honeymoon (it's our favourite destination outside Australia - we got engaged there :)). The "wasting" refers to not being able to spend the day in NYC, but rather flying around the country. :)

- Febs.
