AA Status Run - Nice little earner

Just re-read this and think my post might've been misunderstood. We're in NYC for a week towards the end of our honeymoon (it's our favourite destination outside Australia - we got engaged there :)). The "wasting" refers to not being able to spend the day in NYC, but rather flying around the country. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

That's cool, that's what I thought you meant.

Booked and paid for. :D

Now let's just hope the weather is kind in Chicago on this particular day in February...especially given the 1hr turnaround time.

I need to get from HSV (Huntsville, Alabama) to DEN (Denver, Colorado) on the evening of 20th Jan or on 21st Jan, any tips on how to make this into a status run? Anything up to around 500SC would be useful.

I could fly out of another airport nearby like Nashville etc if it helps...

Goodluck Febs - let us know how it goes.

It really is luck of the draw when it comes to ORD.

Good thing is though that if you get re-routed - you can still claim ORC.

hsv-dfw-lax-sfo-sea-ord-den would earn 570sc on instant upgrade fares.

I'm new to this, but that comes up around the 2000USD mark... how do you get them down under 1000USD?

Also for some reason the multi trip tool keeps complaining about a flight being earlier than an earlier flight even though i've confirmed there are flights that could connect on that day....

HSV-DFW-MIA-PTY-MIA-DFW-MSP-ORD-DEN - About $1,400 for 630 SC. Would have to play with dates, leaves evening 20th arrives morning 22nd.

DEN-ORD-MSP-MIA-PTY-DFW-MSP-ORD-DEN - If you wanted to take a trip from DEN afterwards, about $1,250 with 650 SC.

DEN-ORD-MSP-MIA-PTY-MIA-MSP-ORD-LAS-LAX-SFO - About $1,300 for 810 SC.

Plenty more to find if you're willing to sit down and play.

Thanks crum. Happy to sit down and play and have been doing so on and off for the last few days but there must be a trick to find this stuff more efficiently than I am currently doing as I haven't got very far. Once I realise what the trick is to find these things easier I'm sure i'd be fine. Anyone care to share tips? ie do I need find cheap one way tickets for each segment first then piece together? Is there any easy way to list all AA flights out of a certain airport by price etc..

Until Friday last there was. :( See farecompare references

Yeah I was playing with that last week, noticed it's not there anymore which is sucks....

Also missed a post back on page 10 by crum which is somewhat helpful.

Yeah, I figure being in an F cabin, WP and being at airports with a big AA presence, there should be a few options if the weather starts to cause trouble. Of course, that won't be of much comfort to my fiancee if I end up overnighting in the middle of nowhere instead of making it back to NYC in time!

Cheers,
- Febs.

Hi Febs,
Would love to know how you get on with this, I'm going to NYC in June and hoping to do the same trip myself. Obviously weather won't be an issue at that time but I'm interested in doing it as a day trip and maybe another bigger side trip on the way home from LAX.

Sure, I'll let everyone know (probably during the status run - won't be much else to do!).

Hmm I dunno, this is ORD we're talking about. ;)

Cheers,
- Febs.
ORD - twitch... Took 4 hours to clear immigration there recently. Won't be the issue on these Dom flights.

In NYC be sure to take your bride to enjoy the frozen custard in the park off Broadway. The shorter queue is the one for the ice creams, so don't be put off by all the people waiting.
Also, late at night is a good time to go up the Empire State Bldg. Short / no queues, great views, & an Aussie plays the sax up there around 10pm most nights. Wonderful haunting sounds.

Thanks for the tip (that late night sax does sound like it'd fit in beautifully up there). We've been to NYC a few times though so this time we're keen to explore a few of the less-touristy parts. We explored a bit of Harlem last time, but not a lot - wouldn't mind going back. Also definitely keen to spend a good chunk of time in Brooklyn and check out some of the bars, cafes and restaurants. Then a few decent restaurants in Manhattan (Per Se is on the cards if we can get a booking - wanted to go there in 2010 but couldn't get in, so went to Daniel instead and proposed that night :D).

Apart from that, no real plans yet - just exploring the various bars (if anyone knows of any bars in the same vein as PDT, Milk&Honey, Lower East Side Toy Co etc.. please let me know!) and catching up with some friends who have moved there...though I'm sure at least one visit to Magnolia Bakery will be mandatory, haha ;).

That frozen custard sounds pretty good though! Thanks. :)

We've only ever been in September/October, so I'm expecting it to be a lot colder than we've ever experienced.

Cheers,
- Febs.

Will try to recall the wine & chocolate restaurant in Chelsea. It was a great way to finish & remember the day.
A good place in cold weather is B&H. If you like cameras at all, this is a great place to visit. I spent 8 hours there one day. Great prices.
Another great thing to do is the helicopter tour of Manhatten. Anytime, but just on dusk is amazing. Have your camera at the ready, & buy the most expensive tour you can. Every penny is worth it. Pm me if you want more details...

Late night sax, honeymoon... Is this word play:lol::D

I'm heading to the states September next year.

How far out should I start looking for a status run.

I'll be heading to Mexico which will be a nice earner - might cost me double a normal flight to go with AA on YUPP fares - dun mind paying an extra $600 for 320 SCs.

Ideally I'd like a run out of SFO, or somewhere near by that I could maybe do in a day.

To hit silver / Gold is that any restriction on the number of flights I have to do on QF metal?

I keep thinking 4 flights but can't quite find anything.
