Abbott in Government

So abbott's saving families $550 from the carbon tax by costing families $2300? If so, well done Abbott. What is it 6 days and he's costing Australian families.

Abbott's already failing. Been there 6 days and unemployment's gone up. What other horrors are to come?
Fair suck. Kevin Rudd is still Prime Minister, leading a Labor government.

Tony Abbott and his ministry won't be sworn in until next week.

Why is it unfair that she earns good $ and can pay for good representation ?

Good on her, and if you don't like your own circumstances, change them

If people are too dumb to do so, that's their own fault
Actually that does not say much for our "justice" system.

Take the scenario of two people with identical driving histories, identical characters and both blow 0.09. One gets 6 months and $600 fine and the other gets off scot free.

Makes sense? Wrong. Consistency in sentencing makes sense. Not what you are worth or what you are prepared to pay to get off.

And lets not go into other cases where the magistrate "fancies" the hot looking young man before her and lets him off lightly. Believable? True. Young man arrested for drink driving and taken to police station, charged and released. He then proceeded to drive home where he was caught again later and take to police station, charged and released. Got off very lightly.

That is a totally irresponsible decision by the "justice" system. But that is not the biggest problem as that is merely one of many irresponsible decisions by the "justice" system.

I don't think anyone will be shedding tears for Sophie Mirabella by the sound of it. On either side. Apart from her.

They usually get it very right as far as electoral trends go.
Not always.

- They failed miserably when the GST was introduced
- They failed even more miserably when the Carbon Tax was introduced
- And one of their biggest failures was the inability to solve the problem of asylum seekers on illegal boats coming in to the country. People wait for years to bring their family into the country and these people jump the queue. And seeking asylum is just a stupid excuse as they would prefer to return to their homeland instead of one of the 7 havens they have passed through when they have been rejected entry into Australia

The carbon tax was never measured in a pre poll survey. I think we are talking about different things?

It was a discussion topic for a long long time and the intention was known before the election. Am I getting timeline wrong?

Anyway from memory the carbon tax had something like ~26%-27% support in a lot of polls and then got introduced by the government that should never have been in power.

I think we are talking about similar things.

There's no point in OZ having a carbon tax when the rest of the world doesn't.

A true but irrelevant statement with just one small problem. The "rest of the world" does have carbon pricing or taxes via various mechanisms. Perhaps you should try research rather than believing Coalition scare campaigns.

Its not that simple. I could vote as Medhead, at the booth next door to one youvoted at and not against my name twice.

Photo ID is the way to go

Lets say you do that, what exactly do you achieve? One more vote for your candidate. So what? Say you spend all day, it'll take you all day to get to maybe 10 polling booths, once we consider driving and queuing time. So we need 4 or 5 people doing this all say to get to all booths in my electorate. Now you have an extra 40 or 50 votes. But you also have one of the 4 or 5 people having to do some explaining when the get to the booth that I've already voted at, because I was down there first thing in the morning. Basically the effort require to achieve anything approaching useful is to large, including the risk of getting caught.

Besides false photo ID is really easy to obtain. So that is not an answer anyway, unless we're talking the Australia card. ;)

I expect a minister to be performing at their absolute best for Australia. Is this possible if staying in an ordinary room? Squeezing in for meetings with her travelling party, no decent sized workspace. Separate dressing area. I fear this is cost cutting that is not cost effective.

Very refreshing to see.....massive contrast compared to Carr Cookies must be enabled. | The Australian

if she is unfit to do her job 100% effectively it is little more than pointless cost cutting for political gain. She needs to move past cheap political point scoring and realise that she now has a job to do for all Australians.

Oh but nice little pre-election murdoch attack story that says nothing about costs.

This is how every politician starts off..wait till she tastes the Champagne served in F!!!
