Accor - Platinum Benefits?

Why would they do that? Discounts during high demand are best left to the Irish.
I have never had any issue booking during new years, mardi gras etc on Global Master - the rate doesn't change. They have bumped someone up to a better room before to give me my rate (as it only covers standard) I have also been bumped up before when the standard wasn't available and only paid my Global Master. I suppose the hotel wasn't fully booked either time though.

Not fully booked means no chance of having to walk someone ;)

What is this Global Master rate you speak off?

Its the corporate booking rate for the company I work for. There are 2-3 hotels in most cities, up to 10 in big cities like Melbourne & Sydney, and a handful at most major international destinations that are contracted at a specific price per night, regardless of date. They range from Ibis to Medina to Oaks and go up to Pullman, Marriott, Swissotel & Sheraton

They work well because they are fully flexi and typically even better than sale rates. The upside as well with Accor is that you also get a decent rate on non-contracted hotels if you don't like any on the list - usually whatever the best available rate is (no change no cancel) but + 0.50c and fully flexi till 6pm day of check-in.

It also extends to rental cars, lounge membership, transfers - pretty much everything you would need to travel. Its the only way I can afford to travel as much as I do because part of the contract is that the staff are allowed to use for leisure bookings and the Accor rates are too good to turn down a lot of the time.

Understood, might have to look for a global rate then!

Most big business have them, but few know they exist. The amount of i know that are aware of ours in my office I can count on my hands, and I told the majority. Feel free to PM me if you want to see what they are like.

My sisters were no status at the Swanston Grand Mercure Melbourne not long ago - they have very specific dietary requirements due to their health and fitness regime and the room service menu had just changed from the full menu to the up late menu (just pizzas basically). I called the hotel ask advised of the problem, said they were my sisters and I was platinum. The duty manager went to the subway (closed) and anywhere else she could think of, before she went down to the supermarket herself and made something for them to eat before delivering it to them personally. She also refused to charge us for the coat or the service. One of the greatest most personal experiences I've ever come across; especially considering they were not even classic and I wasn't staying there.

Whilst I applaud the manager for going above and beyond, waving the "I am platinum!' whilst the guests were not is a little top DYKWIA for me.

Just my 2c.

Keep in mind, using rates for corporations you do not work for is actually fraud. Many properties will ask for proof you are entitled to the rate or you may end up paying full rack or worse, without a room.

It was just nice to see that they cared about my stress levels as a WP that were being cased by my sisters staying in their hotel. Its more going above and beyond to me. If it were any normal thing I would let them fend for themselves; but where there is nothing in the hotel they could eat and they are in a city they dont know i'd do anything to sort something out for them.

Yeah Avis wont give me my car without sighting my work ID - Even emailing them from a corporate email address while standing in front of them wasn't good enough.

Interesting! I have never once been asked to evidence use of my employer's staff leisure rate, despite having used it dozens of times in Australia and in the US and NZ.

It was constant at Avis - every branch, every time. Till I started only using the same branch and getting to know the staff.

It wasn't like I didn't have my preferred card with the wizard number on it either - it was the first thing I would hand over.

I've never used that either - don't even have it in my wallet! Just show my licence.

Hi,

I stayed at the St Pancras Pullman in August for 7 nights through a booking I made on Expedia.
Do you know if I get the points for a stay like that?
There is nothing on my account

Thanks

Sorry, no points or benefits for that. I've tried a few times but without luck. You have to book direct with Accor.

Thankfully SPG are pretty lax at this :)
