Short answer you stay silver come renewal time in September 2024.

Long answer:
September 2023 you are silver with total nights in calendar year 2023 = 20+3 = 23.
In Jan and Feb 2024 you do +7 nights, that will bump you to Gold at that point and you stay there until renewal point in September 2024 (assuming no other nights). Total nights in calendar year 2024 = 7.
At renewal, system sees your calendar year nights for 2023 was only 23, and nights for 2024 was only 7, so no bueno for retaining Gold.
Let me get this right.

20+3 this year. Silver.

7 in January. Gold

Gold until September than drop to Silver.

If so, then short answer is

Still works as far as I can see. (April 18/19)

I have been checking for Sofitel Melbourne and it never showed as eligible for Stay Plus. I am not sure if they have any blackout dates or may be because you are searching as a solo traveler. When I try the same for a family , it never shows the availability.

I only ever search for rooms for 2 people, as systems have a hard time org kids and occupancy rules.
Figure out what’s available then figure out if the kids can be accommodated.

No I only ever search for 1 or 2 people and having tried every weekend and can never get Sofitel Fiji or NZ properties to accept stay plus. Whereas same timeless year NZ properties were not an issue.

Using stay plus on a cheap stay at Novotel isn't good value for me. And don't want to stay in my home city.

The thing to remember is tha ALL status calculations are based on calendar years. At the start of 2024, the counter resets to zero.
(No bumping up to gold in this case)

Thanks ... what happens if those 7 nights occur with December checkouts?
You are gold when those 7 nights are credited in Dec 23 for all the following year ie 24 and (renewing your membership in Sept 24) you are gold until your next renewal date Sept 25. Even if you don't re-qualify for gold in 24.
So Sept renewal dates are good because you maintain your status for at least 21months

If you book and pay for two rooms, using your account, for the same night, and stay in one of them, do you get Status Nights for both of them - what's your experience?

I want to make sure that I've got my head around this.
So, in 2023, you've got 20+3 = 23 nights - Silver.
Then in Jan, another 7 nights = 30 nights - Gold until renewal at the end of September.
From October onwards (assuming no more nights), you drop down to Silver - is that correct?

Alternatively, if in 2023 you go 20+3+7 = 30 - Gold.
Assuming no more nights, come renewal in September 2024 - Gold until September 2025 (due to the 30 nights in the previous calendar year)?

I think I've got it worked out but it is convoluted (in my opinion).

basically what you want to do is get 30 nights in 2023, then come renewal time in 2024, you'll stay gold until renewal point in 2025.

Understood.

@bits do you happen to know the answer to the 2 rooms Status Nights question.

Under the rules, you only get one status night no matter how many rooms you book on the same night (you get a night for your personal room(. In most cases, only one night will be added to your account.

@MG1 - It may be helpful to know you do earn status points (in addition to Reward Points) on up to two rooms, if you are the only member staying (i.e. no-one else is trying to claim anything for room 2), and you pay for both rooms (and any charges) in full on your folio.

Often, and depending on the type of properties and rooms you stay in, it can be easier to attain and retain status on ALL Status points, than on Status nights. YMMV.

Cheers,
Matt.

Can vouch for that. When I was a Platinum I always retained status via points rather than nights. As a Diamond you can only achieve and retain it with points which I’m thankful for as we don’t stay as many nights but spend more on each stay and normally only at the “better” tiered hotels

Thank you to @oz_mark, @dairyfloss, @jase05, and @PineappleSkip for your answers: much appreicated. (So no Status Nights, but yes to Status Points - got it.)

I understand now that if you book two rooms at the same hotel and staying in one of them, you'll get the Reward Points and Status Points for both but only Status Nights for one. Is this the same case if you book rooms in different hotels on the same night?

The system won't let you double up like that (it knows you can only be at one place at a time). By all means give it a try and report back :)
