Accor Plus / Platinum, seeking advice

Hi, I am missing 4 nights or 571 Status points to re qualify for Accor Gold before 31 Dec 24, any ideas how to cheaply do it?
Cheaply? Book a qualifying ibis budget in Australia (e.g., ibis budget Sydney Olympic park). These can be booked for as little as $60/night. However, before doing so you’ll want to register for the ibis 50 year anniversary promotion which will get you 500 Accor points (~$15 AUD in value) on every stay at an ibis. Then purchase it through a portal like ShopBack to get 7% back. This would effectively make each night cost around $40/night.

If you haven’t used your free night you can use it now and that will count towards status provided you charge something to the room (e.g., a meal at the hotel restaurant).
I guess the other thing worth considering is how much Gold is worth and whether spending $300+ will get you any benefits. It does seem that Gold offers very little, maybe an upgrade here or there but not a lot else
I think you hit the nail on the head here. They stayed 6 nights this year at Accor properties meaning any benefits from status will be minimal at best. And with Gold not providing too much more over Silver there really isn’t much of an argument in going out of your way for it, even if you were travelling enough. I believe you can request a late checkout which even as a Platinum is far from a sure thing and maybe you get a welcome gift of some chocolates. Upgrades are possible but at the Gold level from my experience they were fairly rare. Platinum is a nice sweet spot since you do get free breakfast in Asia Pacific, lounges, 2 suite upgrade coupons, better luck at upgrades and better gifts but that requires staying 60 nights which can be a challenge.

The various Accor memberships and paid memberships are very confusing. Im looking at booking the Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua for 9 nights in April - the basic room (with free cancellation and no breakfast) will cost $4000AUD.

Would there be any benefit in signing up to the current Accor Explorer sale for $239 and then trying to book the above accom? I think the only benefit is it may attract a 15% discount rate instead of 5% for my free tier?

If you've never signed up for Accor Plus, it's 40% off at the moment. Looking at the same random dates in April I plugged in, it was $3.8k for non-members, $3.6k for ALL Members and $3.3k for Accor Plus for a flexible room rate, and you'll get 20 status nights which, when combined with the nine nights you plan to stay, will put you one night off gold status (unless you already have a few nights under your belt).

I think it brings the total discount to 10%, not 15%.

Accor Plus can give you a free night depending on which level you purchase, which you may or may not be able to use. If you're there for 9 nights and dining a lot there, the Accor Plus dining benefit and 15% of drinks could pay for itself.

$4k for a basic room seems pretty pricey though. Is it peak time?

Ive got access to the Accor Travel Pros rates, usual they offer buy 2 nights get 1 free and the $100 usd perks on certain rates. send me a DM if interested. I booked in June this year and got a buy 2 get 1 free and the added perks including breakfast ect

I will miss reaching Diamond this year by about 2000 status points. A couple of questions
1. Is it worth chasing Diamond, and
2. Any suggestions as to how I can reach this would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

The Travel tier is below the explorer from what I saw? You're saying travel tier includes free breakfast? Even if you book a room without breakfast included (which they are charging an extra $500 for)

Sorry, Accor Travel Professionals rates (exclusive to travel agents) there is a rate called Accor STEP rates which offers these perks and discounts but are exclusive to agents.

No worries. I should also point out a few things about the program:
  1. This is an Accor subscription program similar to Accor Plus which can be stacked upon Accor Plus
  2. The highest level (Absolute) awards 1,000 status points per month. Now I'm not entirely sure when those status points land, so there is always a risk that you receive 1,000 bonus status before year's end.
  3. The program is currently running a Black Friday promotion that discounts the monthly fee by 50%. You will see the prices in R$, which means the prices are in Brazilian Reals ($1 AUD = R$3.74) so the top tier would be $74.85/month with the 50% off discount. One of the benefits of the program is you'll earn 5,000 Accor points which works out to $163 AUD in value so in theory you'll be ahead on the transaction. Additionally, every 4 months you'll get another 5,000 Accor points. It should be noted that any discount only applies for the initial subscription (i.e. the first month's cost). Any subsequent months/quarter/years won't receive the discount.

Many thanks. I have some maths to do. The other thought I have is to book a hotel for a few nights, check in, put a do not disturb sign on the door and come back in a few days to check out. I will have see what works out the best.

You might reconsider the "do not disturb" concept as it may alert Housekeeping for a welfare check @Townsend

It's been a while since I've had the need for such things, but in the past where I was doing something like this, I would just let the check-in staff know that I've booked the room for 'ad-hoc' or sporadic use during a nearby renovation or project. I may or may not be there every day, or perhaps at all, but I want it available through to the check-out date. Not had any questions asked; and no problems with crediting. YMMV.

Cheers.
Matt.

Good strategy @dairyfloss

I have done this in the past with no issues. Last time was a 5 night stay at ibis budget in KL. Just check in as usual, no need to say anything, no need to put the DND sign up. Come back in 5 days to check out as usual. Points/stay credited in the usual manner.
