Add QF Status to AA Booking?

And AA changed policy recently and removed QFF WP from being able to select MCE and preferred seats for free. I think only BA and CX's get that as partners now. annoying but it is what it is.

That's not correct.

MCE, yes (removed).

Preferred seats are still free.

interesting. not with my current AA booking (QF reward seat in T class). Doesn't really bother me too much tbh, but defnitely, like the earlier screenshot, preferred seats are pay up.

I think it's the "alliance" - BA, JL, IB and maybe AY for MCE.

I do get Preferred seats though ... I have current economy AA bookings, 001- & 081- in revenue, 081- in award and can select preferred seats at no charge.

It mustn't be recognising your status like some others above.

Definitely free.

It's OW airlines with a JV with AA. Except QF. We're the only ones with a JV not included. (AS, BA, JL, IB, AY, QR)

Well I see a couple of "blues" (available) in between areas of preferred seats which seems odd (not the row before exit) but still mucho green $'s. Not fussed to make any kind of effort over it for a 90 minute flight. Besides, a behind the wing view is a novelty! :D

If you DM on Twitter it goes to the same people. But yes, I don't understand why you'd fly AA and not have the app. It's the same app to use the IFE.
You no longer need the AA app to access the IFE. You just have to connect to the aircraft wifi and open a browser window to the provided url.

AA eliminated free main cabin extra for all OWEs back in 2020:

Yeah, I just noticed an upgrade offer for an upcoming flight ORD-BOS for US$97ea. But it says you only earn points on original ticket (which I assume flows through to QFF)?
Would you mind sharing where the upgrade offer appears? Is it directly inside the app or do you need to go somewhere to find the offer?

FYI I've had a pretty good hit rate on day of departure just asking check-in and Admiral's Club agents to upgrade to MCE as QF Gold.

Yes, it appears at the top of the booking when you click through on the booking. But as alluded to earlier, I understand these offers appear closer to the date of flying. I don’t know what that time period is but my future booking is about 4 wks out.

The upgrade offer is also on the website under MMB.

The other good thing with the app is you can use it in guest mode and it will remember the bookings you’ve loaded without risking swapping your QFF (or other OW FF#) with an AA# - if you have one. Actually I’ve noticed a lot of airline apps work that way now.

That flight is currently selling for A$1k+ so I felt compelled to take the US$97 upgrade offer! Especially before the cough falls out of the AUD further…

You've mentioned "World Platinum" on AFF several times. May I ask where you've come across this "world" part?
I think it's like the LAX Starbucks - where names are usually spelt wrong.....

and to answer the actual question there are no guarantees but probably a (Rhymes with Banker) Platinum would get HBA more often than not. Otherwise probably AKL, and they're pretty good too imo.

I've seen VA "BusinessFirst" thrown around a bit, too...
Throw back to the1997 were both QF and AN introduced "BusinessFirst" on domestic. This lasted for about 9 months before both quietly droped the "First".

Qantas World Platinum (and Platinum 1) are the only frequent flyer program from Qantas which offers worldwide benefits to its travellers whether they are travelling on Qantas or partner airlines. From first class check-in and lounges to an elevated baggage handling experience, you get it all with World Platinum.

Everyone I talk to seems to suggest that moving from QFF Gold to Platinum is a big deal in terms of customer service, lounges, etc. We'll see. What I've said before and I'll say again is that I have been an elite at several frequent flyer programs around the world (i.e. Delta and United). I have travelled in business class on a number of carriers and have been to a number of airports from the really good (LAX) to the mediocre (Changi). Needless to say my bar is quite high.

Continental Airlines (now doing business as United Airlines) also used that marketing term for their premium cabin. On domestic flights, the product was called BusinessFirst whereas for international flights, there were two premium cabins: BusinessFirst (business class) and Global First (first class). That went away in 2016/2017 when they introduced Polaris, and having tried both products I must say good riddance! Whereas you sat with a neighbour in the old BusinessFirst product, on Polaris you have all aisle access. And don't get me started with the lounges! The Polaris lounge at O'Hare and even San Francisco knocks the socks off the United Club they had!

Contniental back in the day also had BusinessFirst.. with a fantastic 2-2-2 config at the front of D10's and other beasts with the most magnificent IFE ever (check out the ad in the YT... laughable by today's standards, but back then was actually pretty good)

Are you taking the p15S? I think you must be. what a ridiculous statement. What on earth does this even mean?

Needless to say you don't appear to have a lot of experience with truly premium products it's quite clear. You may have been United World Gold, or Delta World Medallion but what does that even mean anyway? You bag Changi.. OK that's fine, but have you flown on the likes of QR in J or F, or SQ in J or Suites? EY? LH? AF? I don't even believe you've experienced QF F (which is not up to the standards of the others mentioned).

We've all been through the LAX thing before. I wonder what you'd make of CDG :D

But none of that negates my comment regarding Platinum status flyers and guiaranteed access to the better HBA agents. It's simply NOT a given. That doesn't mean Platinum is a bad status, it's just how it is. It can be *expected* to usually get AKL or HBA, but it can't be guaranteed. At busy times overflow will go somewhere else. I've had VIP overflow go to AKL at rare times. That's what I mean.

Now sure, while, as a United World 1K, I've always gotten a seemingly dedicatedI(and very good) 1K agent when I've called that particular number, I wonder if even that can be guaranteed by UA.

phone answering, specially with the well known and documented issues with QF, can't be guaranteed. As soon as someone says a Plat will always get HBA, then the first time you don't, then your expectations have not been met. Sure, that's on QF, but I'm more interested in reality than perception.

For the record I have flown on Asiana, Air Canada, Etihad, TAP Air Portugal, Lufthansa, United Airlines, Air New Zealand, KLM long haul in business class. So you are right I haven't tasted all of the business class and certainly none of the first class options out there. However, I think I am qualified to comment on things like lounges and premium long haul products.

Never been to CDG but I will say that Europe has its own issues with airports. For instance, Frankfurt Airport is a real mess if you have a connecting flight. Poor signage is the least of your worries! Oh and Dublin is a dump, especially at night when everything is closed.
