ADL drinks & dinner Sat 9 August

Small spanner in works - once they finally answered their phone, Peel St Bistro said they are fully booked for 9 Aug.

I now have an enquiry in for dinner at Casablabla instead. If they can fit us in, they will require a credit card number to secure the booking, which probably shouldn't be mine as I'm unlikely to be at the dinner - but I am sure that from this group (more than any other group), someone will want to volunteer their card :p

I will post when I have a confirmed venue for 14 pax.

Guess where I am planning for Sat 17Jan - off-topic thread #36205

Where is place, Anna, sorry I sounded like I'm not from ADL. I'm happy to take over the booking if no one else put their hand up.

I'm Bronze , as I will be attending the football . Happy to meet up after the football if post dinner drinks are happening anywhere.

I don't know about any of these places. I shall go with the flow, while Mrs GPH has a hot dog at the AFL

On attempt no. 5 - I have finally found a place that is not booked out : Bistro Dom

Bistro Dom are prepared to have us but they have told me as follows:

"Hi Anna

Just getting in touch in regards to your booking enquiry for 14 people at 7pm on the 9th of August. I have tentatively booked you in for the moment.
With a group of that size we do require you to do one of a few options.

We have 3 options from which to choose.
3 Course Menu $73.50 per head

Entree - 3 choices
Main - 3 choices
Dessert - Choices

2 course Menu $63.50 per head

Entree - 3 choices
Main - 3 choices

This a good idea if you would prefer to have more options. I have attached a sample menu to give you an idea of how this would work. It is a winter menu, reflective of what will be on in early August although we would confirm menus closer to the date. We can also, if you wish, tailor a beverage package to match, according to your requirements."

Sample menu -

menu

small plate
house hot smoked Atlantic salmon, swede, Jerusalem artichoke skin
Basket Range rabbit, sponge crumb, pickled pear
soft & crispy potatoes, seaweed tapenade, soft curds

main
Hawkers Creek lamb, lentils, onions, walnuts
Northern Territory barramundi, celery heart puree, confit leek
Adelaide Hills venison, beetroot, pickled rhubarb, cavolo nero

sweet
dark chocolate & sea salt caramel egg
quince ice-cream, chestnuts, almonds, meringue
selection of local and international artisanal cheese, lavosh, fig slice

Seeking some feedback now on whether this sounds ok, whether people prefer 2 courses or 3 courses, and whether anyone wants a drinks package. Also, how many vegetarians do we have?

If people don't like the sound of Bistro Dom then the alternatives would be to go down-market to a pub-type place, or to go less central in the CBD or even out of the CBD altogether. Just about everywhere else decent is either fully booked or not open that night.

Bistro dom is pretty amazing. 14 people will pretty much fill the place, well take half of it at least. Unless they've expanded since I was last there.

How about the Star of Siam? It's on Gouger St, I think the last time we were there, we shared dishes and ended up paying about $40-50 all up? Food is fab unless you hate chillis. I've just called and they can indeed take 14 people but probably need to confirm soon as it's a very popular place with the locals. There's plenty of places we can go for drinks, I think the last gathering was at the Loft which was quite good. People going for footy can take the tram from Victoria Sq. Anyway, just putting it up for consideration, happy with anything really.:p

That sounds lovely we'd be happy to go there :)

I was avoiding Gouger St on the grounds that it is right next to the Hilton and about 20 mins walk from CP. If the CP people are happy with Gouger St then that is fine as far as I am concerned :)

This is starting to get a bit complicated for you, Anna.

I agree with blackcat20 that it is getting a bit pricey, (and not very vego either). If there is a vego option, I am happy to go with the flow also. But would be equally happy at a cheap-and-cheerful as the next day is going to be pretty full on.

I'm getting the sense that people are not overly fussed about venue - perhaps Aeolus can find out if Star of Siam has space for 14?

I was advised they could set up a table for 14 when I called last night but we'll have to reserve soon as it tends to get booked out pretty quickly. If everyone is happy to go with this option, I will drop by the restaurant and ask if they can work out a banquet menu. I'll also ask about BYO but their wine list is quite ok and not too crazily priced. Anyway, here's the link to menu.

Let me know what you think. :p
