Thanks guy's!

But just a message to virgin:

Make it available to saver passenger's that don't have a status with a small fee like jetstar.

Cheers

I wouldn't expect them to do this at all. For several reasons.

1. Qantas don't allow seat selection for domestic flights (Until T-24) if you have no status (regardless of fare type)
2. Charging for seat selection is very LCC.
3. It would degrade the benefit for Gold, Platinum and Silver members. (Harder to select better seats)

Oh my bad, must of seen to many BSI's :P. Also image 2 is actually a 737-700 hence the 1 exit row.

Sorry Jack but 737-700s dont have an exit row in any row other than 12! That the old 738 config for image 2.

Doesn't stop Qantas charging $20 for the privilege on international flights!

$160 exit row seat selection fee on long haul internationals! WPs get no discount.

Sorry markis10, Jack was right. I uploaded the incorrect image (Originally Image 2 was a 700) and corrected it shortly after.

Sorry Liam, QF do allow seat selection for domestic flights regardless of status

Red Velocity member reporting in!

Got a flight to Fiji next week, booked on saver fares.
Won't let me seat select at all.

But as stated earlier, my Business PER - BNE on friday night allowed me to select 1D.

Only when you go to use OLCI at T-24, but that is expected and has always been the case.

They don't however, allow you to select a seat online at time of purchase or anytime before Checkin opens.

Happy to be proved wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is the case.

Wrong- Seat selection is complementary on QF Domestic regardless of status, and can be selected at time of booking.

Um. IIRC I was able to select seats for Nan and Pop last time they flew QF way before T-24...

They are both NBs

That is for an exit row- not seat selection.

Correct, QF exit row seat selection charge on long haul internationals for a WP. That is a $320 rtn cost added to say a -Y $1,600 fare. Around a 20% increase.

Oh okay, I didn't know this had changed. Happy to be proved wrong. :p

I booked flights last night and it wasnt available.

Woohoo, just went back in and nabbed some nice seats!

Re: Charging for seat selection.

I'd prefer they didn't go the LCC route and add a charge for it, for non-status pax. For a few reasons, one of them being that they need to maintain availibility of the fwd rows for flexi's and status pax. So that really only leaves the seat behind the exit rows. To sell the fwd seats to saver fares would just make a mockery of the status and flexi benefits and of course would incentivise people to buy the cheapest fare then nab one of the best seats. Counter-productive in my opinion.

The other reason is that I abhor airlines with add-on charges regardless of how cheap the fare was to begin with. It makes the online purchase of the fare annoying as you are bombarded with 'do you want to buy...' checkboxes and popups and get the impression it's all a bit of hard work. The other unsavory aspect of the LCC experience is that often once you've added your inclusions you often end up with a fare more expensive than a full service fare and the distinct impression you've been had.

Please, please virgin stay away from that.

Another small change that I've noticed - I have a Blue Zone booking in November, and my service request has been renamed "extra legroom" from "blue zone". That is consistent with the screenshot from jneufeld offering "extra legroom" rather than "blue zone" seating. That must be pretty much the last vestige of "blue" naming on DJ gone now?

Personally, I was always surprised they managed to refrain from referring to the theatre room in the "Blue Room" back in the day as "Blue Movies" !!!

As an NZ*K do I know get to select under the alliance? in practical if I'm booked on a NZ7*** flight number operated by DJ
