Maybe I just get good phone agents but always seem to get them OKd a week or so out?

They gave us row 3 a week back for our ADL-SYD last night.

When I checked in we had row #2, i.e. free food and booze.

THAT kind of re-assignment I do not mind!

I got pushed from 3d to 4f on my flight to chc on Fri. No explanation, and I had checked just hours before that I was still in 3d. The bloke in 3d wasn't anyone special I could tell, was not with 3e and actually left row 3 to snooze in PE. Staff didn't seem to care. The staff did have to adjust 3 from PE to y seats, the tray was up but arm rests were in the PE position. A little disappointing, but that's how things roll.

Hmm - quite disappointing pre-allocation for this week's flight to MEL and back. Flying down on Thursday and hadn't picked seat at booking (like you can do on QF) so checked today and have 7A down and 8A back - pretty poor if you ask me. I could jump in a middle seat up the front...

As a point of reference as a QF WP I haven't been preallocated further back than the 3rd row of whY in the last year (except for AKL-SYD when I booked at 6AM for the 7:30AM flight). I have generally sat in row 1 or 2 of economy on most flights.

If within 14 days when booking; a preselected seat based on your profile is offerred along with the option to change it. This is before the payment stage.

If you are booking more than the 14 days out, it's not a bad idea to set a reminder to reselect.

Just booked a flight for tomorrow morning and seat selection came up as serfty said. It also picked my aisle preference, which at this late stage gave 5C. Looked like they automatically leave the middle seats. I could have selected 3B or 3E but I rather not be squashy (and I'm sure the row 3 window and aisle pax would not particularly appreciate it either. For the return sector, it selected my aisle preference but this time 9C. I changed it to 4A. Looks like most prefer aisle (all aisles to at least row 9 were taken, no windows were taken except for row 3)! Right up to 9 had all the middle seats vacant!

I tend always to book fairly far out so plan to do this in future. Hopefully they fix this sooner than later.

Sadly though I expect those empty middle seats will be filled prior to boarding.

I just rechecked my seating for Thursday and have been moved to 10C and 18C - thankfully 18C was able to be moved to 11C... I think I didnt finalise the seating so someone else has grabbed the seats I had... I might be using those upgrade credits...

The lounge will be happy enough in most cases to put you in the first row of Y on the day if you give them enough time before the flight.

I've clocked up 10 sectors with DJ and not had a problem with seat selection. when I have checked 14 day prior to travel I have always been allocated first row in Y.

I have also been able to use upgrade credits and points without issue. I would like to see this become an online function too.

International (long haul) is a bit of a pain and requires a phone call to sort seating out, this really needs to be fixed, but I suspect it is a work in progress. I at least feel that DJ/VA is listening.

+1 to this.

Since VA have rolled out seat selection, I've never once had my seat allocation changed on me.

+1. I too hope Virgin is automating the flight upgrade process. Surely it would be quicker and easier for everyone

Has happened once without explanation to me (moved from 3D to 4F). Wasn't happy at the time (esp. since the "seat poacher" decided to wander up to PE and steal a seat there without any comment from staff. Row DEF was full!). That said, once is not a pattern.

Question for Virgin Australia - or anyone that knows the answer...

I have a couple of bookings that are 19 & 21 days away respectively, yet seating has already been allocated.

They are both in J using Upgrade Credits - would the call centre have allocated the seats for me, or is this a new feature?

The site still won't let me change the seats - if I click the Seat Selection button it just brings up a confirmation of the booking but won't bring up the seat maps.

Same - I have a couple of flights booked within the next 14 days and can see and change seats, one further out and can't access or see seats, and another one about 6 weeks out, upgraded as well and can see seats allocated.
This is the only one in business so not sure if thats why - interested in others......

I've noticed on ATR flights that I'm unable to select the last 2 rows and I'm gold. I've always been able to do so in the past. Has anyone else noticed this?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread; has anyone experienced quirks with seat selection?

I'm flying SYD-OOL (outbound 7ish PM on the 20th, home 7am on the 24th).
The outbound leg was available for me to select in the morning on the 6th, but it still says "not available yet" for the return leg?

Just seemed weird that's all... If anyone's seen similar, is this likely to just fix itself, or should I give them a call to request a seat?

I get that sometimes. The change over time to be able to select seats is variable, IME.
