Advice on champagne

Sometimes on SQ Suites I am the only one drinking the Krug, the DOM ,the icy vodka with the caviar and finally the French red. Mrscove is no help at all and sometimes I think I am the odd one out.

drank QF F dry the other day with about 8 hours remaining in the flight. was surprised they only stock 6 bottles (Pol Roger 04 this time) for a cabin of 14 pax.

While not common, the issue of running out of champagne has been reported plenty of times. It can either be a problem of not loading the required amount, or pax drinking what has been loaded. QF said they fixed the issue a year or so back, but still happens.

If Qantas pays for champagne, even a single bottle withheld from each flight (12 F flights a day) would save ~$450,000 per year (at $100 a bottle and assuming they don't pay near retail).

Could this go under the heading of First World problems ..... Nice to have them or afford them ..... But it could also mean the servicing of a WP or WP2 lower in business or economy with a good bottle from F. Which has happened previously ......even amenity kits get passed down, I don't particularly frown upon this sort of action especially when the beneficiary is me.

I think if you pay for F you should get full F service and it not be degraded because a status passenger didn't book for F. Anything given to higher status pax shouldn't be at the expense of those in F but rather only if stocks are in excess. While never going to achieve WP1 just because WP is achieved I wouldn't like to accept something if it meant someone who'd actually paid for the entitlement has missed out.

... but rather only if stocks are in excess.

which is kinda the problem....

amenity kits... yeah - one per pax is pretty easy. Provided they have stock for the return (if return catered), I suppose you can give those out.

But perishable/limited/variable-demand items... the whole F cabin might decide they want a champagne breakfast. It's not for cabin crew to make the determination that Flc pax can't have that because they already gave away what they thought was spare stock to platinums in other cabins.

Sure. Agree. So really it should stay in F. I was being semi polite. :p

My classic line. I had been drinking Moet Vintage in the Emirates F lounge which I actually like. We were upgraded to F at the gates. Woot. My first time in the Emirates F suite. When seated I was asked what I would like to drink. I replied Moet. The crew replied - "I am sorry Madam, we only serve Dom Perignon in this cabin". Um - sigh. Do I really have to?

Which flight? My guess is it was not the late night QF12/94?

correct. was QF7 SYD-DFW. I think we were responsible for 3-4 bottles. Crew was excellent. took a couple of bottles up to the J lounge to watch a movie together as really disliked the single seating of the F cabin compared to SQ... but that's for another thread!

Ok. That explains the shortage then. Bad luck for those who missed out.
